Hi Ladies,
I am pretty certain I'm in peri at 36. I get my hormone tests back next week. I've had irregular periods (27-49 days between, heavy or light, short/long) for a few years now. After a few light, easy periods, this one is causing concern. I started cramping like crazy today, with very heavy blood flow and clots. It is like I have an internal wound - the blood is bright, bright red. Just not normal for me. I went through one super tampon in 30 minutes. The next one in 1.5 hours. But when I change, the blood is just dripping out of me. When should I be concerned?

Thanks for your help!
Melissa

Hey Melissa:

During my really heavy days I would go thru the ultra tampons in 15 minutes, and it would literally run into the toilet. It was very scary, at one point I did go to the doctor about it as I was sure I was going to bleed to death!! I was given an Rx for mefanamic acid. I would use the medication for the first day or two of my period, and then things would be back to normal. I didn't read up on the side effects before I took it, which is good!! I had NO side effects at all, but if I had read about them I wouldn't have touched the stuff. This kind of bleeding is commonly referred to as "flooding" and it is very common. I would not worry too much about it IF it lasts for 2 days or less....if it carries on longer than 2 days I would strongly recommend a doctor visit.

I also started with the crazy heavy periods around 35 years old.

Take care.

I just had my first time with the heavy bleeding too. I have never experienced anything like it before. I am 48. I promptly took myself to the doctor and waited 10 agonizing days for my biopsy results.

Everything turned out OK and I am glad I had it checked out. This last period was very easy and similar to my normal periods. So just because you are bleeding heavily does not mean something is wrong and it doesnt mean it is your new normal.

If I had the health anxiety I have had this last year I would have been a mess. I had soooo many years of flooding, outrageous flooding, from 3 day light periods to 7 day periods with 3 or so days of flooding and clots like you wouldn't believe. I know I went into the Dr. I had an ultrasound, they found fibroids. I just don't remember if it was during the flooding time or not. I can't imagine why else I would have had a vaginal ultrasound. I just remember I didn't even think twice about it and I had it for years and years.

Over the years I became tired, irritable, itchy, anxious, dizzy, bruised easily, had to have ice all the time, I craved it.... I tried progesterone which gave me an anxiety/depression attack from h#ll. Then went to a hormone Dr. Dr. Tutero who did hormone pellets, ended up taking testosterone pellets which I did twice but didn't see any marked difference. Ended up finding out I was anemic. I knew eating ice (pica) was a sign of anemia but I just didn't go there for some reason. My period's now are only 4 day with 1 somewhat heavy day... at least for now. I hope I don't go back to the flooding thing. I had it for so long and I thank goodness I wasn't haven't health anxiety because I would have freaked out. My periods are erratic right now although the last two have been 28 days apart. This is just to much fun for a gal to have isn't it? Jeesh!! Good luck to you all. It's a nasty part of peri but it will pass. Take care, Mich
