Hi Everyone,
I need some advice, please.
I have never had problems with my breasts until now (I'm in my mid thirties). I have had this horrible pain in my breast (I say only one, because it is very prevalent on the right side and I only feel little twinges in the left ). I can never pinpoint it..sometimes when I lean over I can feel it, sometimes when I am standing up straight and press I can feel it, but the next time I press there is nothing there. I feel cramping pain radiating from my breast to under my arm sometimes. Then after my period everything goes back to normal until about 10 days after my period. When the pain is really bad if I massage it it goes away and feels a million times better.
For a few months the breast was very swollen then it went down after one of my periods. The left breast had done this before, too but only for one period. I've read all this stuff about fibrocystic breasts, but I don't know, I feel lumps everywhere. One time I felt this huge lump then after my period it was gone.
Has anyone experienced this sort of thing in one breast way more than the other? I am afraid to the doctor because it is happening mostly in one breast. If both breasts were acting crazy then I would feel less stressed.

I just want to know I'm not alone and I want to get the courage up to see the doctor. Thank you.

You're definitely not alone. It sounds like hormonal fluctuations are giving you the pain and the lumps. I also have fibrocystic breasts and I had the most trouble in my late 30's and40's when I was in the thick of peri. I was nervous about the changes also, but spoke to my doctor about it felt better afterward.
Thankfully, after my periods stopped the lumps went down and I have no more pain (well, maybe a twinge here and there, but nothing like before).
Get them checked for your own sanity, but don't worry. It's part of the process for some of us.

It does sound like fibrocytic breast, which I have. I do have more pain on the right side, but when I went for my mammogram, the cysts showed up more on the left. If you're starting peri, I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't months when your hormones have gone bonkers and caused the cysts to be larger and more painful. That said, you really should talk to your doctor about at least getting a baseline mammogram and ultrasound. It sure put my mind at ease when I had my repeat mammogram and ultrasound, that the "lumps" I have are only cysts.

Hi - I hope you'll get the the follow-up suggested here. Years ago, a mammogram showed a benign lump that fluctuated with my cycle causing discomfort similar to what you describe. I called it 'the bean bag from he**'; very annoying it was. Now, way post-meno, it's only occasionally bothersome. But back in the day, I found this to be helpful: eliminating all caffeine, taking oil of evening primrose daily, and taking ibuprofen from mid-cycle until day 1. I hope you will find some relief soon.

I agree with eliminating caffeine....my dr. told me my breast pain/problems were my own fault because i drink alot of pepsi....when mine start hurting i cut out all the caffeine and they feel better within a couple days. But it's best to get checked by your dr. to make sure it's just fibrocystic breasts....

Hi Halo,

Have this myself, been to Dr,s numerous times with it,been going on for over a year now, on and off.

A specialist told me to take 1000mg evening primrose oil 3x a day and it seemed to go,

then I got a bad stomach and thought it may be that so stopped taking it.

But it helped, and also there is a post by My Darling on "Am I starting Peri" page 2 "My left breast is killing me" may be of some help to you.

Would get it checked out though, even just to stop your mind racing thinking "what if" like I do.

I was the same as you thinking if it was both wouldn,t be so worried, but then if just one hand hurt We wouldn,t worry about that!!

Check that post out though, there are a few more threads about sore breasts.

It,s a minefield starting out on these boards though, trying to find things....I,ve only just got my head around it all

Take care

Hi,
Thank you and all who responded. I was really worried about this and the reassurance is a great help.
It's funny my period hasn't even started and the pain and swelling has gone down a bit..maybe the stress of worry was making it worse. rolleyes.gif
Thanks again!

hi,
anyone has been diagnosed with microcalcifications of the breast. I had to go back for more diagnostic views but no ultrasound or mri and am just worried sick about it. no lump found. I had a breast reduction two years ago, last year my mammogram did not reveal anything new so there are new microcalcifications.
Anybody could shed a light on this, would be greatly appreciated.
I have been googling all day and am worried sick!
thanks
