Hello  Meno Sisters,

I'm wondering if any of you have burning in your eyes. My eyes look like I've been crying for days and look really tired. I have done my share of crying and I am really tired but the burning doesn't go away.

Any comments ?

Yes moozie..I have the burning eyes..and they look so tired all the time...good thing my glasses disguise it some or I'd look terrible.  I don't sleep well..so being tired could be the problem.  I know it's not just allergies..because they were like that all winter. I wonder if it's hormone related..anybody know for sure?? I'm going to try some of the natural tears eye drops. I think it may be that we're getting older..I read that our eyes loose their moisture as we age.  Take Care!

Yes,  Moozie, it can be meno-related. A few years back I had a really hard time with eye infections and looking so red and irritated and dry all the time. I really think I was starting perimenopause then. My optometrist told me that dry eyes is a normal part of the aging process. (Sigh!) When I told him how I was embarrassed sometimes because my eyes look so irritated, he said just stay with him one day and he would show me what REALLY bad irritated eyes look like! So I quit fretting about it and use my natural tears as needed. smile.gif

I find my eyes burn during the spring due to high pollen counts.  Perimenopause seems to make it worse.

I had dry eyes as a part of being mildly dehydrated (and anemic).  Not to worry you I hope... if you are thirsty as well this could be the cause of the dry eyes.  Also lack of sleep causes dry eyes.  Probably other things as well cause dry eyes as a symptom so you could mention it to your doctor if you haven't already done so.

I read somewhere that even mild dehydration causes anxiety.  Also thirst is noted as one of the symptoms of anxiety.  Plus anemia is a factor in causing anxiety, and if anemia is caused by blood loss, thirst (may) accompany  it.     Quite a puzzle?!

The positive note here folks is that if you feel anxious you may be able to help that by drinking water (and certainly by correcting any anemia which you have)!!!  What annoys and sometimes worries me though is that I keep drinking water and I have been thirsty for a long long time (over 6 months).

just sign me,  walking away from anxiety and panic ....

I have problems with my eyes too, and they are worse this time of year with everthing blooming.  The liquid tear drops work to help keep them lubricated.  What I hate is sometimes I have to keep blinking my eyes to clear them sometimes.  Not only is it irritating, but it increases my anxiety when my vision isn't focusing the way it should.

Besides pollen, it must be caused by lack of some kind of hormone - I' ve been post menopause now for over 2 years.

Dry  eyes and blurred vision can't be blamed on menopause.  Men get 'em too. We're just getting older. My eye doctor recommended GenTeal.   I'd avoid Visine, even thought it's cheaper.

My gynecologist said my drier eyes and my *feeling* of blurry-type vision were signs of menopause: decreasing estrogen and its fluctuations.
