Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone of you had orally taken biotin for hair thinning on crown area. Had read that GNC biotin 600 mcg is quite good but I am still concern of any side effects in future.
Appreciate your advice. God bless. blessy

I have been taking Biotin supplements, and BioSil, for months. I asked my doctor first, and he said it woldn't do any harm. I think it has helped the thinning of my hair. It's also supposed to help with your nails. Not sure about that. But the hair is thicker. At my nutrition store, they said to be sure to take Biosil and Biotin, two different supplements. It does take months before you notice any difference.
Hope that helps.

I've been taking biotin for several months (since April).
I can pretty much cut glass with my nails; they grow fast and strong, but I see no difference in my hair at all. Heh, perhaps a few more months and they will start growing

I just read an article in the October Good Housekeeping on ways to make your hair look thicker. They did actual tests on shampoos that claim to make your hair thicker, and a couple actually did make the hair shaft thicker. One was by Pantene. Can't remember everything else.
Here's a link to the article.

I took GNC hair/nail/skin vitamins for 2 years which has 3000mcg of biotin for my thinning hair. It stopped my thinning hair, I was really pleased. I since recommended it to others who had the same results. I did not have ill effects from the biotin, but recently when my skin started breaking out, I stopped using it. Although, I am not sure if my break outs were from the biotin. I have not taking the biotin for a year, and my hair remains healthy, so you probably will not have to take it for ever.

What are your hormone levels like? Hair thinning, especially at the crown (aka male pattern baldness) is usually from an excess of androgens. When DHT accumulates in the scalp, hair loss occurs. I'm having this issue, but at the front of my scalp. My androstenedione is super-duper high, but my testosterone & DHT are normal. I'm confused on this part, but am seeing my ND this afternoon.
Saw palmetto is a safe herbal remedy for blocking the effect of DHT & hairloss. You can google it.
I've been taking biotin, PABA, choline & inositol for a few months to try to stop the thinning but I haven't noticed any regrowth. It hasn't progressed either (as far as I can tell.) But man, I lose SO much hair in the shower!
