Hi ladies,

I have been visiting the message boards for several months now, but rarely do I post. I did want to check in and let you know that after some very uncomfortable perimenopausal symptoms, and one year on BCPs which really did not help much, I started taking synthetic hormone replacement therapy (Prempro) about three weeks ago.

I don't want to "jinx it," but I really think I am feeling much better. The free-floating despair and anxiety are gone. I don't feel depressed and anhedonic. I don't want to cry every time someone looks at me funny. It doesn't feel like "chemically-induced happiness," it's more like an ABSENCE of the bad feelings and I'm just left with . . . . MYSELF!!! What a wonderful relief to just have my plain old SELF back without all the drama and misery. Now I sure hope it will help my libido, too.

I know there are a lot of opinions about synthetic HRT in this community and it's not my intention to start a debate. I have read lots of material and am aware of the risks. I chose synthetic HRT for my own reasons and so far, I am feeling a great deal of relief.

I hope that is helpful to someone out there.

Glad to hear you're feeling better...and if HRT does that for you,i say more power to you(and the prempro) biggrin.gif

I am glad you are feeling better too! And if Prempro is doing the trick for you then..YAY!! I use the BHRT, but if it didn't work, I would switch to synthetic. Whatever works!! In fact I am considering trying Provera, as I am having such a difficult time tolerating progesterone...maybe a progestin would agree with me better??

We all have our own reasons for choosing what we do, and I for one, am so glad you found something that works for you. That is fabulous news.

Hi there,
Delighted that you are feeling better......Certainly don't be embarrassed that you have chosen the synthetic HRT. From what I can gather it seems to do a jolly good job. Somehow the synthetics appear to involve far less messing about than the bio-identicals. Given that the risks are much the same, I think that you have probably made a good choice.
Even the experts have had to agree that taken at the lowest dose for as short a time as possible they pose little risk.

I agree. Don't let anyone lecture you about synthetics-horses urine blah blah....
I tried Premarin cream a while back and I had the usual comments about it from some women here. Those who are doing ok on the bios can sometimes be sanctimonious, but if the bios make you ill then what other choice is there? It is not up to them to judge!
Unfortunately for me although initially I felt ok with Premarin it made me terribly depressed so I had to stop but otherwise I would still be using it as the bios pack too much of a punch for me.
I hope you continue to do well on it!

Floater,
Have you thought of trying dydrogesterone (Duphaston), it is also syntetic progestine, but I have read it has least androgenic properties and safer record than medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) in Provera.
I am not sure if it is available in Canada, but it is made by Solvay Pharma, same company that makes Prometrium.

Hello ladies,
I also have been visiting the message boards for awhile now. I have been also very successful in taking hrt, activella, specifically....my gyn had prescribed bcp ovcon 35 during the "peri" years which also helped me tremendously and then switched me to hrt after my period stopped completely...i had stopped the bcp completely however my symptoms physical as well as the emotional came back with a vengence...my decision was easy as to taking the hrt since i had great results on the bcp which i was very reluctant to take. i also believe in quality of life and since mine was virtually non functioning...i will accept the risks over the inability to live comfortably. My concern is when i would stop taking the hrt and the affect that may have on me. I trust my doctor will manage that process effectively as well. Whatever treatments a person chooses is best decided themselves as well as with a doctor's experience. No one should have to suffer terribly through this time of lives, nor their families when there are options. There is no magic potion, no cure all, but you can feel better with some medical intervention. Wishing all of you well!

Dear Ladies
I also enjoy a successful relationship with HRT.
I am very happy that it is working well for many of you.I have been taking it for many years although I need a lower dose than when first Menopausal.
Bios. are not available in this country so have no access to them
However I also have read all available information and the pros and cons.
Quality of life is definitely my first priority and I enjoy this with HRT.
Everyone of us has to find sometimes that will work for them and then have patience and hope that all will be well.

Blessings and Peace to all my sisters here on Power-Surge
