Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to remind you ladies of the great benefits of swimming. I have a Y membership and I swim year round. I find it's great exercise and a great mind booster. We have a lot of friendly lifeguards who are always willing to give advice on swim technique and it doesn't hurt that a lot of the male guards are aesthetically pleasing!! Oh I am bad tongue.gif Seriously though if you are looking for a low impact workout that will work every muscle swimming is it !!!

Enjoy your day Ladies biggrin.gif

You are so right, Tara!! I had a pool in my backyard for years, and I was in great shape! It's great for toning!! Not the best for fat burning, but it tightens everything up! Thanks for the reminder!

ohh that's too bad about the ear infections. You can always buy earplugs and as for lessons they teach all ages. Give it a try! You can do it biggrin.gif

Allas Tara, I love it too, swimming is the best, consider all the aches and pains and wear and tear, I love it.
I started to swim seriously and regularly 2 years ago and now I am total addict, must have my "Michael Phelps wann be" 4 times a week.
Hugs,
I.

I can thoroughly endorse swimming as great all-round exercise... and somehow no matter what types of aches and pains I have, they seem to vanish when I get into the water. I do an hour's swim once a week, and it's intensive swimming not stop-starting - just length after length non stop.

Another good thing about swimming -- it supposedly helps with bloating. I read in a magazine the other day that the pressure of the water pushes the excess water out of your tissues and back into your bloodstream where you can eventually get rid of it as urine. I wonder if that's why I always have to pee when I get in the pool? Anyway, the article said that soaking in a bathtub will give the same effect, except that of course you don't get the workout that swimming provides.

Oh yes I can vouch for swimming! I have been going three times a week for many years and I absolutely love it!
I have a lot of aches and pains but when I get into the pool I swim like a fish and I feel about 19 again. It is great for the cardiovascular system but it doesn't put any strain on the joints.

Interesting what you said about wanting to pee when you get in the pool Webalina. (I trust you don't actually pee IN the pool though laugh.gif )
That happens to me too and I always thought it was the chemicals in the water. Even better if it is the swimming causes bloat reduction-great piece of info!

Hmmm...maybe I'll check into this. I grew up with a pool in the backyard in S. Cal. so I swam almost year round. We have a pool in our yard now but alas once Sept. hits the water gets too cold very quickly. It's about 50 now...Burrrrrr! BUT there is a YWCA pool very near here and I pass it on my way home every night. I'll check out what a membership runs and see if I can swing that. Might very well be the solution to much of what is making me crazy these days. Thanks for the suggestion!

I do same type, non-stop laps for an hours, alternative free style, back stroke, and breast stroke, as well as kicking board for leg. I swear, this is the time when i feel my best, i do it 4 times a week currently, and wishing i could swim daily. I would, if I don't have to shampoo my hair every day, I don't like the effect. I am looking to buy a spandex swim cap to wear underneath my silicon cap to avoid shampooing.
Ladies, who have access to the pool, this is life saver. smile.gif I also go to jet tub and steam room every time before and after the swim now and it works really good. The aches and pains still here, but it surely helps to get some form of exercise without feeling like I was hit by a bus for week after.

Hi Jan,
You will never regret it, I pay hefty fee because the facility is new and very nice, and it includes all the classes, and cardio, and the whole package.
But I only go there to swim, and this is what keeps me from losing my mind completely, consider all the work and life stress lately, I believe it has something to do with water itself, that is calming, may be it is natural for human, not sure, but i am total addict, I can swim for hours, if I had more time, LOL.
best,
I.

My Physical Therapist Swears my "POOLates" which I must try soon - she is near to 60 and looks fabulous.
Her body is just so toned. Her legs and bottom of her bottom are as defined as a 25 year old.
Supposed to be easier on joints, too.

I was a part time aquafit instructor (evenings after work) until about 2 months ago ,, just couldnt handle it anymore with 2 teenagers in high school ,, being on the music board, working full time. I do miss being in the water so am starting to go back when I can squeeze it in ,, but as a participant instead of a teacher .. I really made a world of difference in my sleeping and kept some of the weight off !!
