Hi all,
Have been wondering whether women are supposed to use natural progesterone continuously once having started it or does the body store up enough and then the body no longer needs to add more?
The trembling adrenaline feel that I get when I use the cream does not occur at lower doses and each month I seem to need less cream before I get a bad reaction to it.
My doc has not mentioned that I may no longer need to use it.
I've been using it for about 4 years and I used to use very high doses, sometimes as high as 1/4 tsp twice a day of 5% cream. Now I am only using about 1/16 th tsp of 3% cream before I get a bad reaction! My body can't seem to handle any more.
Any thoughts?

You are not alone in experiencing this reaction. I was on it for almost two years continuously and started having the same problems. I was okay initially but then started having problems with anxiety, nervousness, adrenaline surges, heightened flight and fight response, & internal trembling.

They call it a paradoxical response, which means you get the opposite reaction to what you would normally expect from progesterone. It has also been shown to exhibit withdrawal properties similar to benzodiazepines. It's tied up with GABA receptor function.

I don't think most Dr's are aware of the problems it can cause with prolonged use in some. From my own experience with it, I would'nt recommend it be taken every day as it can also cause problems with the adrenals, particularly cortisol levels. I believe the receptors need a break from it and also adding it into the mix at the wrong time can also mess up your cycle and confuse your own production of hormones.

Have you had your hormones tested on the 21st day of your cycle lately? You could also see how you go without it for a few cycles, especially if you are having this reaction to that small a dose?
