I'm 45 and only starting to have peri symptoms--6 months ago I was still cycling like clockwork but have since had a hot flash or two, insomnia, anxiety, lighter periods etc. Anyway, I went to a gyn and a uro as I was having bladder and vaginal irritation. Gyn declared I was "imbalanced"--the area looked very red and slighty swollen. He implied I didn't have enough estrogen to balance my progesterone based on my symptoms and his exam. I am on estrace vaginal cream and low does bcps and it seems to be helping quite a bit, but there is still room for improvement. Not sure if this is atrophy in my case but it is imbalance and is worth a trip to the GYN.
Mine said he sees the condition a lot, including in women who are breastfeeding--he's a good doctor. (My first gyn thought it was maybe a bacterial infection, thou I had no symptoms of that--glad my new one understands peri...)

Wow, after looking at that I'm hoping I might get a little of that atrophy.

After having six kids, my vaginal opening is very large and stretched out. I miss that "virgin" look.
I'm not making fun of anyone who suffers from it, just making a little joke about myself. Hope no one is offended!

"atrophy" just means that the tissues are shrinking which is what makes it appear so differently and become fragile and such. everything I've read says that this happens when there isn't as much estrogen. It also tends to go along with vaginal dryness.

It looks like a medical pix. I mean, a pix taken by a doctor. I think thats where most of the medical/body pix that we see, come from. Doctors files.
