Full Version: My Hormones Are Normal?

Okay, I've been waiting for almost three weeks to get the results of my blood tests. Finally the doctor calls me and tells me that my hormones looked 'really good'. All within normal range. He knows the anxiety and nervousness I'd been experiencing and said that maybe my P was a little low for the amount of E that I have. He also said that my cortisol was completely normal. Does any of this make any sense. I seem to have been feeling a bit more 'normal' in the past week or so, at least not quite so anxious and don't have that dark cloud of depression hanging over me - thank the good Lord!

My question is don't hormones fluctuate throughout the month, so even if they take your blood, isn't that just a snapshot of where your hormones are at that place and time?

Hi, Have you ever looked a a hormone patch? They are so extremely small. I cut mine into 4 pieces and it
can completely change how I feel. It is amazing how so a minute amount of estrogen or not enough progesterone can completely change how you feel. I used to get blood tests and saliva tests, but now have realized it is how you feel. It is hard to be a chemistry project just to get through the day.

Just my opinion,
Kim

It's my understanding that our hormones fluctuate even throughout the day......my blood work turned out "normal" too....even though the day i was at the dr.s office i was having major hotflashes and i have skipped periods....i don't need a test to tell me i'm in peri...

I,m in total agreement with you Jones, how can they show an accurate reading, when everything fluctuating minute by minute hour by hour?
I,ve over the past year had 2 lots of bloods done all show normal when I,ve felt horrendous.
Then the Dr,s want to send us down the counselling or AD route because they can,t fathom whats going on.

I,m finding it more and more frustrating as the knowledge I have picked up from being on here,it would appear these ladies have more sense than most Dr,s,yet the majority of us are being left high and dry.
The times I have had my bloods done and neither of the Dr,s asked where I would be in my cycle, when bloods done which I feel would bare some significance on the results.

Anyway glad you are feeling more normal and hoping it continues for you Jones

Jones,
Unless you had serum estrogen levels run a decade or so ago than you & your doctor don't know what your normal is. There is a very wide range of what is considered normal. A better gauge may be to run a FSH serum level. I wish I had a baseline run when I was in my thirties so I would know what my norm is.

they can even change hr to hr, this is why alot of dr.s wont test....

My estrogen is 132-- well it was 6 months ago on the lab test I had done. My progesterone is low, but within range, and the ratio of E to P is off. My testosterone is 26, at the way low end of normal. My doctor also did not think my hormones were that off, and she supposedly specializes in BHRT. Optimal estrogen is 175-200, I don't know what optimal progesterone is, and I would definitely feel better if my testosterone was more like 40-60. Am I suffering and about to die? No, but I definitely don't feel as good as I used to, have mild depression. Doctors are not in the business of optimizing female hormones. Most of them discount symptoms and say perimenopause is a psychological thing. I was happier with more hormones I know that for sure. As for fluctuations, I doubt very seriously that my hormones have been much higher than what the test results showed. I have not felt much better or worse in years except in my early 30s. I am 39 and when off the pill my days are either middle of the road or bad if I am PMSing. I think I was fluctuating more 5 years ago. Now it's more like the same feeling all the time regardless of anything, even the Pill. BLAH!
