About 2 months ago, my husband and I decided to be aggresive about losing weight. We decided to cut out obvious sugar sources except for minor splurges on the weekend. An unexpected result? My hot flashes have gone down from about 20-40 a day to only about 5.
It's hard but I have lost 10 pounds (with about 50 more to go) but looking at the donut during the week is not as appealing when I think of all the hot flashes I am 'missing'. and another unexpected result? my PMS is not as bad either, about half of what it used to be...never realized sugar had that much effect on me.

yes, sugar is evil!!

When I went on a 'detox' once, I cut out sugar completely and noticed my energy levels went up dramatically!...I mean, when I went for a run I was flying!

Which makes me think I must do it again sometime soon....but it's hard.

Yep... sugar is the enemy!!!! It is NOT our friend. It made all my symptoms worse!! I'm glad you feel better!!

Good for you cutting out sugar! I find that with me it did make all the difference. I only have soda now if I'm out for dinner. It's become a treat now but like I said I feel so much better. I'm glad you do too! biggrin.gif

OMG. The sugar is a HUGE trigger for my hot flashes, not to mention is makes my insomnia even worse... whenever I think, "oh, I can have just a few pieces" lo and behold, the flashes come at me in a rage! I was actually thinking about it earlier today - once upon a time (pre-meno two years ago) I could inhale chocolate all day long... now, if I eat any sugar after about noon, I shot for the entire day and night.

I consume virtually no sugar at all except a little in coffee, & my hot flashes are wicked. Dang

There's sugar in everything so it's kinda hard to avoid it completely.I feel alot better when i cut back on sugary stuff but i crave it......how do you fight the cravings?

Yes, sugar (& wine) is a major trigger for hot flashes for me. I can have fruits without a problem though so I get my sweet fix that way. Much better.

Processed sugar wasn't that difficult for me to give up since I had already given up gluten which forced me to give up processed foods. What I eat now is mostly meats, veggies & fruits. I've noticed milk products bother me too, although not neccessarily with hot flashes, just a total ickyness. I wonder if it's the sugars in milk?

I let myself have organic honey and get sweet fix from raisins too, but for the most part, all sugar is out for me if I want to keep the flashes from not being every 15 minutes 24/7! The little bit of caff I have (1/2 a shot 20 minutes before I run) I'm albe to burn off within the two hours of the workout, but have to stay away from the sugar... tricky when you need it to recover after endurance sports but gotta' to manage the ******** flashes! Hate 'em, I really, really do. Oh, and the waking up all night with them? Insane.

The longer you do without, you will start not only not craving it, but if you have something sweet, it will taste too sweet and believe it or not, you won't like it. huh.gif

The higher te fat content in milk, the lower amout of sugar there is. If you are allergic to gluten, could you also be allergic to milk? I have to stay away from both gluten and dairy. And you're right processed food was easier to give up when you can't have gluten, but I started making my own baked goods, which was too bad, because I started eating them like I did before I couldn't have gluten. I ended up gaining about 20 pounds. Fortunately, I've dropped about 15 of those pounds because I've lost my appetite for sweets! Not sure why, probably all of the anxiety! dry.gif
