Does anyone know if there is a specific reason for racing, pounding, flopping heart that happens mainly after midnight and very early AM? I do get it during the day as well but not as often as during these hours. I am not feeling hot or sweatly when I awake so I do not think it is a hot flash (I have had those) unless you can have them without the heat and sweating part? It feels like that bolt you get when waking from a nightmare along with the bad feeling in the upper stomach area and then the rapid pounding heart starts. It takes longer to calm down though than it does from waking from a bad dream...I have been having a lot of dreams lately but not nightmares just frustrating ones and it seems like I am over reacting to these dreams in my sleep or something, lol, I don't know how to explain it because I don't feel like I am having a panic attack when I awake, maybe I am having them in my sleep?....also when I roll over in bed, my heart really over reacts to this with the heavier pounding. I am anemic and hypothyroid but I am not taking any medications for the thyroid, just Iron, B12 shots, multi vits and liquid D3...I am just wondering if anyone knows of a certain medical issue that occurs mostly during these hours or if it is just peri-meno/anemia/thyroid/stress issues.
I am going to have a stress test and wear a two week monitor in early Sept.

Bleh...thanks and I hope everyone is feeling well today!

Hi Meg,

Well, sorry but I won't be of any help to you .... but at 66, I had the same thing happen last night or rather 5:10 am this morning, which woke me up. Mine was about 8 really hard heart poundings and then the adrenaline shoots in and I dont think I went back to sleep at all. Feeling really icky today and have lots to do. I was going on Power Surge to read all about "it" and here was your posting. Mine seems to be more by the calendar sometimes so you might want to start keeping a journal.

I wish you a good day and I certainly understand how you are feeling now. Its just the fun ride of "mean-o-paws land"....hang on and grab hold of any help from here that you can get. We are a very loving and caring community.

Take care,
xoxo lr3216

Thanks for responding! It IS Mean-o-paws isn't it! mean, mean, mean!! What is this early AM stuff?! I have just begun a journal and I hope to stay focused enough to keep it up and remember it and remember to look at it and make some sense of it too, lol! Sounds like a huge thing to me these days, just having enough oomph to handle all of this!
I hope you have a better night tonight, I am on my 6th night in a row with this symptom.

Oh me too!! After my periods have become worse for me lately too!! And WHAT is with the dreams?! I pray at night "please God, let me fall asleep easily with no bolting up and no racing heart and please NO dreams tonight".... so far God still wants me to have the dreams...sigh.

Hugs!
