I have all the classic, miserable memo syptoms, and have remedied as best I can with supplements and soy, etc., but started taking 1500 mg of calcium this week with my 600 mg of magnesium and I have been feeling SO depressed, hopeless, upset, moody, you name it - can these supplements be a cause?

I wonder about that too. Back when I was in meno I didn't even know it but just that my periods were so erratic. At 39 you don't think MENO. Other than that nothing. I didn't have the best diet and wasn't a big fan of exercise but now at 46 I'm feeling blah. I have so much anxiety and insomnia, no appetite. I exercise eat right ( when I can ) and take vitamins. WTF???

Dear 'twistoffate'
Frankly the only supplement I can tolerate is Omega.
The others make me nauseous and do not help in anyway
I have about ladies who have tremendous success with Herbs and Supplements but for me it has to be HRT.
Anyway, honey I am no Doctor but it seems to be true that we all have different reactions to Meds. whether Herbal or Synthetic so unfortunately it often comes down to trial and error before you find something to ease your symptoms
I believe there are some great alternative Doctors out there.Perhaps you might do some research to track one down
I think you have suffered enough, dear Sister

twistoffate, I have spent so much money on supplements ohmy.gif and some work, others make me feel weird. I have not been able to take calcium for some reason. I can take magnesium but calcium makes me feel jittery. I know they say it calms your nerves but not for me. Everyones different, what works for some doesnt for others. I did have more energy on ginseng, but gotta watch that one, it can raise blood pressure so I've heard. I've even cut my magnesium in half. I wonder also if some just make us feel worse and it may be best to get them in foods instead. I just dont know for sure.

Hope you feel better soon. Maybe cut the amount in half and see if that helps .

Thanks everyone, just came back from a really long run and feel alittle better - I'm going to cut out the calcium and see how I do with that, and then back out the magnesium if need too... could just be a major hormone crash and feeling the affects more so this week from that. Had some family confrontations and upsetting work stuff this week too which had me SUPER agitated and angry - argued with my son over it all and whenever I have confrontations like that I feel like crap for days after... just don't seem to tolerate the emotional stuff or pressure like I ever used to.

Is it possible that our bodies whilst trying to go through this are adjusting as best they can, then we start popping a vitamin or something, they have to readjust again, making us then nausea etc??

Just a thought,as have had some yuky symptoms whilst taking vitamins?

I realise they work for some women and glad they do.
