Does it bother anyone else that the days are already getting shorter. I know we still have plenty of daylight now but I'm already in the dreading mode of the dark days of winter. Lack of sun makes me tired and depressed.

I hate change in any form. The only thing that helped me cope with the days getting shorter, was my love of the holidays. But since this terrible bout of anxiety and panic started in December, I'm terrified of the holidays this year. I haven't even gotten myself stable yet, and here we go again.''

I also have noticed the longer night time hours. I don't like being cold and I like even less, the high gas prices to keep warm.

I feel the same way. I had to adjust the timer on my outdoor light this evening because it was so dark outside.
**sigh**
The only thing I can say is that it may be a good time to start increasing your intake of Vitamin D3.
My blood test showed I was deficient, so I've been doing my 20 minutes of sunshine when I can but supplementing just in case. (It's been cloudy so much this summer!)

But I feel for you.

hi girls! go to 'alternative' and look for the topic 'vitamin D' that I started (the sunshine Vitamin) I think it was the missing link in my SAD- do some research on vitamin D - you'll be amazed at how it affects our 'SAD'. love you all! from -'the princessgod of menopause' rolleyes.gif

We've had almost no summer. It rains almost everyday and now the days are getting shorter...and colder. Definately not good for the soul. Just a little bit of sunshine would be so welcome. Probably will be sunny everyday this winter. Oh joy!! dry.gif

A group of us were just talking about this the other night while watching our sons play basketball....it was an 8:30 game and when it was over, it was pitch black out and we couldn't believe how quickly the longer daylight days went by this summer....my comment was, didn't it seem like when we were kids, it was light out until 9 o' clock for the WHOLE summer?????? And we all agreed!!!!!! ****sigh***

I try and absorb as much sunlight as I can in the summer to carry me over the winter....and this summer has been so cool in NY that even thinking about the cold, snowy winter is scaringly depressing..... unsure.gif

Dear 'summermoon'
I do understand you but actually it does not really bother me
The reason being I live in The Middle East and the idea of the heat lessening is such a blessed relief.
Am not sure if this is correct but I read on someone's Post about a Machine that helps combat SAD.
Hope some of the great ladies have information on this
What I do definitely notice is the older I get the quicker the time rushes by,just like
memories.

Wishing you all the best

I think you're referring to a light box. I've thought about getting one for myself. They can be pricey

Well I don't live in the Middle East - unless you consider Chicago the Middle East of the US, LOL, but I am with you - I HATE the heat. Thank the good Lord that it has been a relatively mild summer - except tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90's - bhahhhh! I used to hate when fall came around because I knew that winter was right on it's heals, but now I really enjoy the cooler, shorter days - plus my kids are going to back in school and there will be a little bit of peace and quiet in my home again! biggrin.gif

Hey everyone!I have SAD. Every year in October it gets really bad. I didn't no what was going on with me for so long!I just knew that I had a very rough time starting in October - March or April. If I don't have to come outside in the winter, I don't! I feel so gloomy & have this dread feeling? My daughter's birthday is in October, so I have learned to start alot earlier than I need to getting things together for her party!!

I purchased a light box last year. I didn't use it like I should've. I was on mood stabilizers that made me severely tired on top of the sad thing. I couldn't get up earlier than everyone else to just sit by it on a regular basis, to see if it did work?I am off mood stabilizers now & on hormones. Hopefully, I will be able to use it this year!

I got mine loads cheaper from ebay. They can get pricey, and got mine for 1/2 the cost of the brochure price!

I definitely hate the days getting darker so soon. And I hate when the sun isn't shining sad.gif

Yes its gonna be a bit depressing for me i noticed the change already but like jeanine said i am looking forward to cooler weather.

It has nothing to do with temperature in my case--I don't like hot weather either, but I do like the long, long days. It's the SHORT days and the waning amount of day light that brings on my depression.

That's what I'm talking about! I have always LOVED fall. It is such a relief from the blast furnace of heat we get here in Oklahoma. I love the holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and am like a kid at Christmas time. But then after Christmas the SAD really rears it's ugly head. I could handle the cold alot more if I just had the long hours of sun to go with it. I know I could not live any further north than I do. I don't see how those folks do it.

I am struggling now with this....I do every year to some degree.....Nov. is usually when it really hits, when it is dark by 5, but Oct here i Wis. has been anything but pleasant.....it has been about 15 degrees below average temp. wise all mo. and the reall kicker for me is we have had about 2 sunny days since Oct. started. Like snowmoon it is not the cold, well 20 degrees is cold and uncomfortable for anyone, but it is more about the lack of sun for me. I never check the weather in the summer, but it is the first thing I do in the morning now and several x's a day in hopes the forcast will change. I moved here from sunny Florida 9 years ago because of family whom I hardly ever talk to anyway ( I met my husband here so I have to say it isn't all bad) now I say I am thankful I am not in FL anymore with hotflashes because I wouldn't have made it, but I am such an outside person and it gets very hard to stay up when it is cloudy, gloomy and if that isn't bad enough now it is foggy. I feel like such a complainer and my husband says her we go again and I can't change it so why complain.....yes true and maybe I should just make the best of it, but it effects my mood so much and not just depression, but I am very crabby too. I could move, but am agoraphobic now so I feel like that isn't an option either. Oh well thanks for listening.....got that out of my system for a few days. HUGS Mikki
