Does any body out there get these feelings of hotness that go up through your shoulders and expecially in the back of my neck. I am not sure it is a Hot Flash, because I do not sweat. I think it is more of some sort of anxiety. I just start getting this feeling that heat is crawling up my shoulders and then I feel almost sick to my stomach and get really nervous at the same time. It is just like the worst feeling of doom or something. I don't know if I am fighting off panic or if it is some sort of hot flash. Any one out there experience this? I get it and then it goes away and then I will get it again through the day. I just started this about a week ago, when I came off the progesterone cream I tried. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Hi PB,

These sound like a version of the hot flash. The hot flash comes in many shapes and sizes and I had many different types on my menopause journey. Try not to be concerned; they sound very normal to me.
In my ignorance I thought that a hot flash would just involve feeling, well....... er........ hot. I was unprepared for the panic, the tingling hands, the feelings of impending DOOM, the nausea and the feeling that I was going to pass out.
I think that you will find that you will go through stages. The hot flashes tend to build to a crescendo and then hopefully die away after several months or even years. They are very likely to go away and just when you feel all smug they come back and snigger in your face.

At the moment mine seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Lets hope that they are on their way out............................They are sooooo unpredictable I will not be placing any bets?

Take care,

XII said it all. I get all kinds of them from light to intense to out of body experience. Some days bad, some days barely notice.

I totally agree with XIII, it def sounds like a hot flash. I too thought they were just supposed to make us feel hot, and some women do experience them that way....just feeling really hot all of the sudden. When mine started they were accompanied by everything you described. Just awful aren't they? Just keep in mind not to put any importance on the negative thoughts that race through your mind as you have them, they're ALL lies. It's like the body telling the brain what's what...it's so wierd!! Don't force yourself to act a certain way while they're happening, just let it pass and then put it into perspective afterwards. I felt like such a failure when they happend to me...because I would get SO scared and panicky...I exacerbated them by judging myself so harshly! There is no 'right' way to handle it...there's just accepting that it's happening, not judging yourself or anything else while it's happening and moving on afterwards.

God bless and may we all find some peace soon with all of these symtpoms

As they all said!!!

Somedays I get hot flashes w/the sweats.... lovely

Then somedays I get what I call the hot flushes. It's different, more like a flush, no sweat, and yes sometimes it comes in like a wave...

Yes, can surely bring on anxiety.. Just like last night, you know that freakin 3 am thing, when you wake up, the covers all kicked off ya, you feel like someone turned the heater on. You look over at hubby, and covered up in the blanket... Then your mind starts it rant, oh what's wrong, then oh boy that kicks off some palpitations just to make a little more funnier (not); now you mind is really racing. Just lay there, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up. Finally passes, takes the mind a little longer to "shut-up", and if you lucky you fall back asleep.... That's my classic nightly hot flash... (perhaps not every night, but more than not....) mad.gif

Painfully funny, Becca! (You just described my 4:00 a.m. experience last night to a tee.)

I was having about a dozen a day of Patsy's flashes last year. Now I get a mix, including HOT flashes and Becca's night nonsense. However, I don't have nearly as many, thank goodness. My feelings of doom and anxiety seem to be much much worse with a flash/flush, and so I've learned to recognize the thoughts as a physical symptom instead of a psychiactric melt down.

Hang in there. You're not alone!

Dear Patsy
What a coincidence.Yesterday my 35 year old daughter was describing the exact sensation you were having.
She went to the Gyno.,I use,he is a very nice man.He has put her on a low dose HRT.
She only started yesterday but I will let you know results
In my own experience-hot flashes often accompanied anxiety and bad feelings so please try not to worry to much.It is those fluctuating Hormones!
Why did you come off the progesterone cream?
There are lots of other options including Herbal compounds that will help.

Hope you find something that might help/Also stay away from caffeine, alcohol and sugary products as they love to hike up the party!

Dear Christine
I really appreciate what you wrote
I wish to God that I had more mental strength to fight the Demons.I pray hard, breathe deeply, practise Yoga and yes these things do help but only minimally. So there are times where I have to take a small dose of Xanax as needed.
God Bless you too

I'm glad Elizabeth. It makes me feel good to be able to give something back from what I get here. Heck at the beginning of this week I felt awful! Now I have vertigo and geez....it's NOT fun. Nothing wrong with xanax either. I had a whole bottle of them just sitting there last year and refused to take them because I felt I'd be failing if I did. What is UP with that? Why do we judge ourselves so harshly? Esepcially when we are SO strong?! I mean, I can't picture my hubby having to dea lwith all of this and being okay with it! ohmy.gif

enough
I have a sister in law who once said, "if you were a diabetic you would take your insulin right? then why not take the xanax if needed. It's just another illness that needs to be treated." I always resist, thinking I should be strong and not take it either, but, I have learned when the need arises, I do take it. It's not too often anymore, but it does the job, and what is worse not taking it and getting the body all tensed up to the point where the muscles get all tense and the stomach does, and then you pay for it later. Stress is not good, take whatever you need to help you through. It's not forever and even if it was wouldn't you rather be happy then a wreck? I am learning to follow my own advice as well, it's not easy, but I am getting there.

smile.gif Hello, I'm a new member. I felt like I wanted to join this forum to express my experience that I 've been going through for the past two years. I am so thankful that I'm not alone with this horrible thing called menopause. I know that alot of you have been experiencing this horrible feeling of anxiety right before a hotflash. I thought I was loosing my mind or maybe I had a brain tumor or something. I have done alot of research to try and find out what could be causing this feeling that I have before the hotflash. Finally I came across some information that I want to share with those who are going through the same thing, but I know everyone is different,(one shoe doesn't fit all) but I hope this can help someone out there. Vitamin B-6 100mg. helped me alot. I know it really helps with progestrone levels, and it's also a nerve calming nutrient. Also B-12 100mg. I try to take the same mg. with the B's, and I take magnesium. It doesn't hurt to try it but it sure helped me..Goodluck, Karensplace..
