I think I'd get ear plugs if I were you. I remember that feeling very well! Thought I was literally losing my mind over the noise!! I couldnt stand so much as to hear anyone talk! It was a total nightmare!

Oh I soooooooo feel your pain! I not only hear my 2 coworkers on the phone because they are so LOUD, I sit back by the bathroom of all places, and can hear what they are doing in there! Talk about NO privacy! Sometimes there is just too much information for me to handle, so I get up and try to find somewhere to hide, but there is no place to hide sad.gif

Absolutely get yourself some good headphones to drown out the noise. I am a writer, and for a couple years I had to work on a large IT project where we were in the open cubes - not walls at all. It was annoying when people just had normal conversations, but then people would have these conference calls and it would get much worse. So I got a pair of really good headphones. At first people teased me about listening to music, but then they figured out it was a really noisy environment and they actually got quieter. They realized how loud it was.

I just can't tune it all out, especially when I have to concentrate to write. And working at home was not an option. Not allowed. That was ludicrous. I would hear someone start up a conference call, and I swear, the hair on the back of my neck would rise. I just wanted to tell them to take their conference call elsewhere! And some people's voices were more annoying than others. I know I was more sensitive to it because of peri, but many times it was just plain rude behavior to have loud conversations when everyone was trying to work. And then there are the poeple who had personal conversations that everyone could hear. I could tell you exactly what the guy across from me was paying to have his basement finished, how annoying his mother in law was, and the potty training of his toddler son.

And if you needed to have a personal phone call (like make an appointment with the GYN!) you had to take your cell phone outside or the ladies room or find an empty conference room.

That was a few years ago and it still makes me shiver! That was one of the reasons I left that company. The physical work environment was awful. Don't get me started on the sloppiness of some people in the work place about break rooms, coffee pots and the refrigerators. Some never heard about cleaning up after themselves.

Sigh.
Back to work in my quieter environment where we are allowed to work at home when necessary!

Thanks everyone.

WriterMom that is a good idea and as for making a pers. phone call...it's the same here. I go into the conference room.

Today she is leaving early so that's a blessing tongue.gif

I have a co-worker who drives me bonkers because she can't chew gum quietly. She makes this little snapping noise over and over. I start to picture somebody using an ice pick. Maybe I should ask her if she wears dentures. Well, let's see--she chews for about an hour before it gets stale, so I'll put on my headphones.
