Hi Ladies,

I started having my usual hormone migraine a few days before my cycle which is the norm for me, but after my period started the headache/migraine did not go away. It is day number 6 now, and I am getting anxious that something worse is going on. I hate this. The pain changes from the top of my head to behind my eyes, in my cheeks, then in the back of my head. Movement hurts sometimes, sometimes not.

I just went to my family doctor today because to be honest I was freaking out thinking I was having a stroke or an anuerysm (sp?) I know I feel embarrassed to be even be typing this, but it is how I feel. Lately I get so anxious about my health and I tend to think the worst is going to happen. And of course, if I google my symptoms..well..there is alot of bad news out there!

So, my doctor was hurried, even though I waited an hour, then he said "oh, your having a migraine". He was nice, but he seemed a little dismissive. So, I just came out and asked him about my fears and was this really a migraine or was I going to have a stroke or a blood clot? He looked at my latest MRI, I just had one about 6 months ago ( unrelated, but it was a brain MRI) and he said I was fine. My blood pressure was good. Then he proceeded to tell me about his wife and that she was going through hormonal problems ( and I did not even say anything..am I that obvious?!)..so he just gave me some migraine samples ( maxalt-mlt?) and said to call him in a few days on my progess..that was it.

So, why oh why am I still thinking I am going to die??? I hate this...ughhh..thanks for reading this..just needed to vent about my loontic self...sighh..

Take Care

Hi Sunny, try not to worry about it. its very common to get these headaches. i used to get them every month the day before my period and it lasted for 3 days every time and i thought my head would explode from the pain. then i started getting them AFTER my period started, still painful and 3 days long, then they came AFTER my period was over, same thing, then i started getting them midway between periods. lately though i get them whenever, but they are less painful and last for days, like 6,7,8 days. ive tried taking advil and tylenol and ibuprofin but nothing ever touched it. a couple of months agao my husband told me to try asprin, i did and it actually took it away! i was amazed and ive used it for my headaches since then and it always works.
the worry you have about your health is also very common during peri, we call it health anxiety and its nearly impossible to control. i had it so bad that i went to the ER over and over for the same thing until i finally felt convinced they were telling me the truth and i wasnt dying. lol . this went on for 6 years until they finally convinced me to take ativan. i did and it stopped my ER visits. i still can worry about things but with the ativan on board my thoughts dont spin out of control. i can think rationally and let it go.

I have no doubt that migraines and hormones go hand in hand!! During peri my migraines got much worse. Then after menopause I got a wonderful 18 month break. I do supplement with BHRT, and the migraines came back. I have figured out now that progesterone trigger migraines for me. During peri your progesterone levels can end up too high in relation to your estrogen (it can happen the other way too!!) which (for me, at least) caused/causes migraines.

Because you have had an MRI, and all is well....I think you should TRY (I know, easier said that done) and let go of the fear, and just accept that your body's hormone system is totally wacked out and wrecking havoc on your mind! It is bad enough to suffer with migraine, let alone adding that fear of something being terribly wrong to the mix. Just keep saying to yourself....it is hormones, baby!! It is hormones, baby! It IS hormones, baby!

Sunny, 2005 was my headache year> I would have migraines that would last a month. All the pretty lights-sick at my stomach and OMG the pain! Nothing helped!
2nd neurologist I saw said migraine disease. I have no doubt they are hormone related! Yet no relief did I find!
They did settle down but do return once in awhile> right after my period in June I had one that lasted 2 weeks!
Hugs!

Oh my Sunny......after reading your post now I do feel silly complaining about pressure in my temples.
That headache you are describing.........it makes your whole face hurt doesn't it? I get this alot lately. My last episode lasted 8 days with no relief. I DID notice though that the more pain medication I took the less relief I was getting (this if over the counter stuff of course - not prescription). Once I stopped taking the advil or the tylenol for a day it started to ease off......the whole rebound effect of some OTC meds. I feel for you honey.......I know what you are going through. Sending you good thoughts and hope it soon releases.
