Does anyone else have a problem with lights seeming too bright and sounds too loud? I don't know if I'm turning into a vampire or if this is a legitimate symptom of perimenopause. Any input is appreciated.

Oh some days.....I literally will walk around the malls in sunglasses cause I cannot stop squinting due to the lighting.....sounds...don't get me started there. Anything......people chewing, people sniffing.....drives me bonkers and I get so mad!! mad.gif

I have probelms with light sensitivity too. Does anyone have a problem with adjusting from light to dark? For example, being outside in bright sunshine and coming in the house where it is darker. It takes me a lot longer to adjust to the change.

Oh, yesssssssssss! I have been there. I'm going through something similar right now with music. Usually I enjoy driving in my car listening to music, but the last couple of weeks it is rather annoying. Instead I prefer to listen to those talk shows that use to be annoying to me huh.gif!

Ever since I starting peri certain lights seem to be too bright. Thank God that it has gotten better smile.gif.

I would much rather be a vampire!! but yes my sweet, I get that a lot.......just a thought, maybe get your ears checked. I have ototoxic bilateral vestibulopathy and that makes the symptom even worse.......I have to wear sunglasses with fluorescent light or I get real bad vertigo and other bits and pieces.......not saying you have this, but I wondered for years why i was so "strange' with the light and sounds.......on top of the symptoms with peri, it is awful some days.....but this can be quite bad with peri alone.......

You take good care sweets...... smile.gif Just a tip my GP gave me.......ear plugs and sunglasses.......it is amazing what you will do in a large shop, or sunlight.....he also told me to slow my movements down(I fall into things) but it can help with that "overstimulated" feeling.

Grocery stores are the worst, but I've also had trouble in my own bathroom lately! Maybe I have to start wearing sunglasses around the house! cool.gif

Yep, sights, sounds-and smells! Even good scents, like chocolate or my favorite perfume, bother me some days.

Hey Michah! I am new here....but saw your post and feel like I have similar symptoms. I often get a feeling of being overstimulated....by lights, especially. It is almost a "high" feeling (similar to that which preceeds a migraine headache). Anyway, in the past I have had ear issues.....a bout with Vestibular Hydrops, which thankfully happened only a few times in my twenties. Very scary. Anyway, now that I am 42, I sometimes feel light headed....on the verge of being dizzy, but not. This is so hard to describe. My head feels like it is filled with fuzz. What did your doctor suggest? I understand what you mean about slowing down your motions, to stave off the light headed feeling. Ugh!!! Just had blood work done yesterday and everything was normal.

Light sensitivity is horrible for me. The sun is the worst.

I was the migraine queen. This is a "pre-migraine" of sorts caused from lack of estrogen....or estrogen fluctuations. Have you had your hormone levels checked? My doc often gives extra estrogen.

Since starting bios, I have not had one migraine. My vision is clear and noise, lights, & etc. don't hurt me at all. I shed my cape and now go out into the sun!

Absolutely, I yell at hubs to turn down the TV and dim the lights, it started with peri, this and strong perfume, I no longer can walk through perfume department.
It is all related to adrenals over stimulation, some days it is better than others, but pretty much irritates me daily.

Sun does not bother me much, but I wear sun glasses all the time outdoors, even when it is overcast.
I had worst migraines since my late teen until mid 30s, when my estrogen is high, this stopped since I started perimenopause, I guess those were estrogen related migraines.
I also had super sensitive nose, always "smelled" something others did not, LOL, again, adrenal issues, I think.

Hi Jesse,

Oh babe, it is yuck! Some days are worse than others........I take valium(it is a vestibular suppressant) if I am in a car or out. Stemetil is also good if you get motion sickness with your ears. But mainly my doc said I have to start using my eyes as my ears. Always look in the direction you are going in, don't close your eyes while standing( I will fall over if I do this......sometimes I have to ask my man to watch me shower and wash my face or I fall into the shower wall!!). No loud music or concerts and rest my eyes when I can because they are working extra hard. Be careful or you will get eye headaches and funny vision. I have to limit my time on the computer for this reason.......

Sorry babe, not much info but I hope that helps......

You take good care....... biggrin.gif
