i know i have posted this before but i did not get much of a responce so still wondering about it. Do any of you women out there experience a burning skin not just hot but sunburned sensation on your skin? also do any of you get numblike sensations on your hands and limbs. like something sticky is on your skin.  Today i am having a particularly bd day muscle tightness and acke, burning skin sensations on my face, back pain, and facial numb sensations.  help!!!
Irene Crites
Hi Nina, Presuming that you have been checked out by your physician and all is well it sounds like good old meno to me.  Many women have burning, sensitive skin and tingly numb feelings. If  you check all the posts you will find postings about these very symptoms.  Also if you check the rest of the information on this vast website you will see additional confirmation that "formication" i.e. burning, itching, ants crawling all over you and numbness/tingling of skin (even on the face) is a common complaint.Hope this information is helpful, blessings and be well.

thank you Irene!!

NBJ -I came onto this webboard looking for someone with the burning skin sensation.  It's been driving me nuts for 3 days.  I have an appt. Monday with my gyno but have been really worried about this feeling like I lifted the cover off boiling pasta and got steam burns.  Mostly my arms, but some on my legs, face, and neck.-Rene

Just got through a couple of days of this burning skin thing on my legs, I think it is some kind of vitamin or mineral thing myself that is aggravated by meno. just a theory of mine. My hubby even gets this now and then so it doesn't seem to be meno altogether.

But I'm no rocket scientist. like I said just a theory and a hunch.hugs, jeanne

Rene
Thanks, Jeanne,I feel better already knowing someone else gets this.  I wonder how many others there are out there like us?  I'll keep you posted after I talk to my doctor about it Monday.  Have a GOOD day, all. - Rene
Nina Bellanti
do any of you who get he burning skin sensation also get it in your nosae and mouth?
Snowbird
Hi, Nina)))Sorry to hear you're still suffering with this....as I!!  Mine comes and goes.....but to answer your question.....I do get the burning nose and mouth, sensation!!It comes and goes tho'....plus the skin on various parts of the body:(I've pretty well given up on trying to figure it all out!!  First I thought....it was allergies....then fibromyalgia....then meno......then maybe all of the above!!  Which it probably is......a combo of stuff!!  All I do know for sure is......that it's getting better....as I get closer to post....and I'm just hoping it'll go away.....alll by itself,  someday!!  I hope!!! *Sigh*

I know it's hard, hon....not to get outta sorts over it.....cuz, it is annoying and mysterious at times!!  I'm sure yours has to do with meno...like the rest of us!!

Just rest assure, that your not alone.....and you can certainly come here anytime just to let us know what's bothering you, anytime, day or night!!!

I'll be thinking of you and take care, my friend)))))

((((((Hugs)))))) ~*Snowy*~

Hi guys, I get that too, but mine seems to concentrate on my upper legs, butt, and sometimes my sides.Wish I knew what the heck causes it.

Hope you all don't get it often. Mine is rare now, though I did have it last week.take care guys, hug, jeanne

Rene
The first place I noticed the burning was my lips.  I was thinking it was a reaction to new lipsticks, or that I had accidently touched some cleaner or something to my mouth, but now I wonder.

My burning is usually on the arms, the underside, and near the wrists.  I've also felt it on the thighs and back and neck, but the arms are about 80% of it.

Skin is skin and I'd bet that it can occur ANYWHERE we have skin!

juju
I have had this for about five years. ALL of my skin is affected, but the worse places are arms and back of neck. I often feel as though there are icy raindrops hitting me all over! but at its worse my whole body feels like a blister and I feel flu like and shocked by the overload.I have noticed that when I have period pain it seems to spread all over me and make these feelings much worse. As I am bleeding constantly at present this is really wearing me down :-( After many weeks of worsened sensory problems the muscle twitching sets in too. It all seems like a hyperexcitible nerve 'thing' to me, even though I am not always aware of being anxious! In fact the severe fatigue makes me feel the opposite- This is all perplexing and really awful.
Nina Bellanti
burning skin is back with a vengence!!!!! Itsn been almost two months. I think it will never happen again and then wammy.  i tried to think what i did different ( spicy foods, grapefruit,  on monastat for a yeast infection, and its the day befor my period) does anyonbe out there see any patters in when they get the burning skin? its so perplexing. this time right after a bath my but burned so bad and it burninmost of the night. never had it here.  then it went to my feet , hands and now my face.  I feel like i sat in acid.  I also had night sweats last night.  Im trying not to worry but jeeze this really is nasty!!!!!!! my feet feel like they are throbbing like ive just been ice skating and my feet are thawing out. I also feel like ive been in a dry wind and chapped all over.HELP!!!

I know the feeling Nina.  I can't seem to get rid of this.  I have tried all sorts of lotion.  Helps at the moment then starts up again.

Count me in on the burning.  I am having it at present and only nocturnally..It awakens me from sleep and is sometimes accompanied by a faster, more forceful pulse, which could be the anxiety I feel from having this.  Around 3 years ago, I experienced a lot of hyperventilation and this same burning of my arms.  My Dr. gave me Xanax and also Ativan to try.  Either will relieve it for a few hours in small doses.  I use this stuff so sparingly that I still have what he gave me back then and, thank God for it!  In my case..this is connected to stressful situations no human being could bear without anxiety.  I will not bore you with the distressing facts of my life except to say that this latest episode probably was brought on by 9/11..I have children who live in NYC and work in Manhattan.  My Daughter-in-Law is very nervous about living there now and I feel great concern for her.  I have never have had my HRT really balanced since menopause began and my life is just out of control.  I think I am going to work with Dr. Hueseman at College Pharmacy to see whether I can get better and more balanced hormones working for me.  Right now, I am a basket case because of this anxiety and the burning and it helps to know I am not alone.
Kalanie
Bethany... Pete Heuseman is a pharmacist at College pharmacy, not a doctor, but he SHOULD be one!  :)   I hope you get some anxiety relief soon.  :)
Nina Bellanti
well again i thought the burning and numb sesations were history but now they have returned. It seems as if they come back within two months. But i have noticed that i dont have the mind spinning out of control so maybe im replacing it with the burning and numb sensation.  The tumb sensation is almost like your about to get the chills but it stays on your face, like its vibrating.
Aunt B
I have found a lotion by Gold Bond.  It is medicated and it feels so cool when you rub it on.  It does help tremendously.

Hi Nina,I have had the burning feeling in my face and neck.  I would get it about three times a week. When it would hit I felt as though I had a flu and fever. The burning would last for hours at a time.Would take my temp. and was always surprised it was normal. This lasted for a couple of months and scared the heck out of me. But, finally it just dissappeared. I have also had the numbness and tingling mostly in my hands.  This also took a couple of months to disappear. The only thing I can say is it did go away though at the time I didn't believe it would.Hang in there. You are not alone.TCML

Hi ladies,Another reason for numbness and tingling in face, hands (especially) and other extremeties, could be due to constriction of blood flow caused possibly by tension/anxiety.  I know that if you carry your stress in your shoulders/neck, this can cause numbness in arms and hands.  Do some slow stretches in the morning, concentrating on the shoulder area--like you're shrugging your shoulders in a forward motion.  Then, do the same thing in a backwards motion.  Do it slow though.  Worth a try--helped me tremendously!  (This type of constriction does cause the "hot skin" thing to be going on too)

Im so glad i found out im not the only one with these burning sensations. My MD and GYN said they had never heard of it before. They came on first on my knees then went to chest ,arms and back. Arent so bad now aleast not every day now for last couple of weeks anyway.Really scared me at first especially when they were all over my body. Now the burning is better i get numb sensations on my face, left arm and leg in spots.Dr seems to think it is stress but sending me to neuro just to be sure.A hot bath helped with my burning for a little while anyway.Maybe it just relaxed me. I take a low dose of xanax i think it helps. Tried the zoloft but felt to drugged even on very low dose.At least now i m not alone. STRESS  more burning i had the the more stressed i was .Hope it all gets better soon for all of us.Thanks ladies for being here it really does help.

SharriI know how scary this how thing is. Im 37 and started this burning thing 3 years ago.  My whole body burned for months. Now it comes and goes. I have never really gotten a real answer or should i say ive gotten many answers but no real relief. I take the xanax only when it is unberable.  I also get the numb sensations mostly on my face but occationally on other parts of my body.  It doesnt hurt just so terribly anoying.  It feels like somthing is rubbing against my skin.  My brother who has anxiety also told me he gets this sensation too.  Let me know what the tests say good luck!!!!
Dakota
I need help !!!!!! Could someone please tell me exactly what these numb sensations on your face are like ?? I have had these weird things going on for a couple of months now. It started with a numb feeling kind of under my chin and up under my tongue, almost like a muscle spasm , tightening the muscle. I had the first one while I was driving and thought I was having a stroke ! Then they started occuring with more frequency up to 10 -15 times a day. Now I am also getting a numb feeling  kind of over my nose and upper cheeks occasionally. It just feels like when you get novacain, but the skin isn't really numb, cause when I touch it  I have feelings there. It's really driving me crazy and I have had such anxiety which just keeps getting worse the more this happens !! I find myself just waiting for the feeling to come back , which I'm sure isn't helping , and then I sit and wonder - is this numb ,isn't it numb or what !! I feel like I'm going out of my mind !I thought I was kind of past all my meno problems. Haven't had hot flashes in quite a while etc.  but now this is worse than a hot flash. I would appreciate any comments anyone could give me on this !! PS - I went to the doctor  the other day and he gave me antacids for acid reflux ! ( cause I also have  a lump in the throat feeling, stuffy ears, sore jaw etc ) He said if this doesn't help he will send me to the neurologist.
Nina Bellanti
Dakota I wonder wy the dr. gave you antacids.  My Numb skin feels just like you explained. It is mostly on my face but i also get it under my chin, legs,  and arms.  It comes and goes.  It is so terribly irretating.  First time i had it i went to the emergency room.  I know it can be caused by ear, sinus, and anxiety.   Let me know what happens???? nina
Dakota
Thanks for your reply, it just helps to know that I'm not the only one having these symptoms - especially something as scary as numbness on your face !  How often do you get this feeling ? Mine's been going on for 2 months and  just comes and goes all day long. It's not as bad at night when I finally sit down on the couch and relax a little. The past couple of days have been a little better - I started taking some " Rescue Remedy " from Bach flower essences.Good luck to you  !!

Hello all,  This is my first for the burning skin.  I seem to go through one phase of menopause, just to have another crop up.

Mine started with my knees.  My skin looks normal and yet I can't stand to even a sheet on my skin.  I'm going on to the joint and arthritis board because I also feel like some one injected hot pepper in my knees.  I will be 50 soon, and my whole body aches, but this is the first for the burning and joint pain.  This lasted for 3 days, stopped for a week and now it's back.

I'm hoping to find more information,..any thing new on this, I'll be reading and hoping to find.

I'm so happy to read about other women having the burning face thing!  I thought I was going nuts!  All of a sudden the cosmetics I have used for years feel like fire on my skin, with a terrible drying and pulling feeling!  I have switched to sensitive skin formulas and it helped tremendously (Verite line by Estee Lauder).
seabum
Nina,I too have the nose, mouth, lip burning thing. Have had it for 6 years and am now 3 years post. Drs all say hormones. And anxiety makes it worse. Trouble is, my anxiety is bad due to hormonal fluctuations so its like the cat chasing the tail. Even my inside skin is overly sensitive. Cannot eat spicey, acidy, or salty food. Meds make the burning worse and have become sensitive to all meds. Never had this before meno.Hope this passes.
Irene Crites
Greetings...Seabum,       I too have had some burning mouth problems but over the last few weeks  have been troubled by my mouth either being too dry or having too much saliva (no burning) and feeling like I have to swallow all the time.  It seems to be aggravated by eating at times also.  Have you had any issues with this along with the burning mouth?

Blessings and be well.

seabum
Hi Irene,Sorry for the long pause between replies. Yes I get dry mouth or too much saliva after eating on occasion. Can be due to sensitive nerve ending in the digestive tract. It gets all stirred up. Dr says they are vasomotor systems. And during Meno this gets all out of whack.Sorry for the long pause!
IreneCrites
Hi Seabum.....No problem with the long pause.  I think mine has to do with digestion too.  Since I have been taking acidophillus and drinking Aloe Vera Juice (approx.4 ounces a day) it has been much better.  Sounds like you have a wise doctor.  Thanks for getting back to me...glad to see you back. smile.gif
Suzie
Oh wow! So THAT'S what's causing the excess saliva! Thank God! I thought I was starting to drool ! How gross! It's only meno! I could just envision myself getting senile and drooling all over the place !

Suzie

debrikkia
Okay--read these last several posts--anyone else have EXTREMELY dry ear, nose canal problems?  Mine get so dry at times that they actually peel as if from being sunburned or something.  It is embarrassing to always have to check your nose for "loose skin", and check your ear for "peely skin" before you get your hair cut!

Deb

Suzie
Hi Debrikka,I haven't had that one! I'm sure it's probably another hormone problem . I know my face feels extremely dry this winter to the point of sometimes being painful on my cheeks.Suzie
IreneCrites
Good morning ladies.......The *Everything's Dry Syndrone" sure is great isn't it.  I think we're drying up from the inside out. LOL  Everytime I go to the doctor's for a check-up some other part of my body is drying up.  Boy I sure hope we don't dry up so much that we just blow away in the wind. ohmy.gif

Deb....I must say that you have finally come up with issues that I have not experienced.  I thought I had all 32 meno symptoms and created a few of my own...but alas you have one uped me. smile.gif  Seriously though I'm sure its due to the same thing that Susie's extremely dry face is....this has been an incredibly cold winter and the weather certainly has a huge effect on our skin.  I have found that if I drink more water that is very helpful.  I also have been using a deeper moisturizing product than usual and that has also eased the problem.  As far as overall body dryness, a nice Alpha-Keri bath is great. Relaxing and moisturerizing to the skin all at the same time.  A soothing soak with an essential oil (Lavender is awesome) is so pampering while also addressing the dry skin dilema.

Susie, have you ever tried using a Facial Mist Vaporizer?  Just one 10 minute treatment once a day will be very helpful.  Also helps with sinuses. I am still laughing from your earlier post regarding *drooling*.  I know its not funny when its happening (at least I didn't think so when it happened to me) but your presentation of the problem just struck me so funny.  Quite a visual.

Just a few helpful hints that I have used with good success....maybe they will help you ladies.

Suzie
Hi Everyone,Irene, I haven't tried the facial mist but have heard of them. Are they expensive? I usually drink alot of water, but for some reason haven't drank as much lately, I'll give that a try too. Yes, I can relate to the "drying up" problem very well. Must say my face isn't the only thing that is drying.......Glad you got a laugh out of my drooling! I just hope nobody else notices me doing it and gets a laugh also! Let's keep it "our little secret"! Ha ha!Suzie
IreneCrites
Hi Susie......Your *drooling* secret is safe with me. I have an invested interest in not bringing any attention to drooling. LOL I don't think a facial mist machine is too expensive. I would look for one in your local pharmacy or Walmart (or whatever large department store near you).  I have had mine for a longtime so I haven't priced them lately. My face isn't the only thing drying up either....lets not go there. LOL.   Hahahaha smile.gif

Be well.

debrikkia
Irene,

My "drying up" problem didn't just start this winter.  However, I must say that it did start after I moved from California to Virginia.  I've never had exzema in my life, but I think that's what part of the problem is.  The other part is that I keep breaking out in these strange "lesions" for lack of a better word.  Two doctors have told me that they think it is allergy relatedl, but I'm not buying it.  I was bitten by a spider 2 years ago, which left a black scar on my leg, and it was after that that I started having this skin disorder.  I just feel in my gut that they are related.

This thing with the skin in my left ear and my nose drying up, is another story.  I've tried everything, and it doesn't help.  I also think this goes beyond the dry weather, and is something else all together--although I have no idea what!  I will still keep posting about this until I hear of someone else who has had these problems and has found something that helps!  (I've even tried sticking Prep H in my nose--even that doesn't help!)

Deb

IreneCrites
Good morning Deb

Sounds like your belief that your skin disorder is somehow attached to the spider bite makes sense. How coincidental can all of it be, even if you had a change in climates as well.  The lesions are mysterious for sure.  Hopefully someone will see your post who has experienced your issues and will be better able to address them and maybe share some suggestions that will be helpful.  In the interim keep posting and I hope you will soon find an answer.

Blessings to you.

Hi,

I just read this thread and I'm so glad that I stumbled on it.  I've been having facial numbness but only down the left side.  Also (and this happens a few days before my period), I wake up in the night sometimes with My hands completely numb, does that happen to anyone else here?

The numbness in my face feels really odd  and I can't really explain it but when it happens I keep reaching up to touch it because its really irritating.

I dont konw what I would have done if I hadn't have found Power Surge.

Thanks for being here.

Gez-

I type allot as part of my job and I used to wake up often with hands completly numb.  I thought it might be carpal tunnel.  I go to a chiropractor and that has helped.

Lately I get a tingling prickly sensation in my hands and arms.  It's probably meno.

Gee this is not what I expected at all.  Thought this would be a breeze.  It hasn't been for me.

Sandy

Thought I was nuts. I would describe a pins & needles, or numbness, particularly on the left side(arm, shoulder, neck and face). Even was evaluated in the hospital for heart since I was also having palpitations and brother had heart attack age 39. No one mentioned this could be part of meno.  Thanks for the info, but how do I get rid of these feelings. They left for a while but are back and sometimes in my legs also?
40something
Tattoored-

I wish I could tell you how to get rid of these symptoms.  I don't know.  I still get them.

I suppose exercise would help but I can't afford to join a gym and right now the temperatures are at 100 at 10:30 at night.  That is too hot for me to walk.

A chriropractor helped but she charges $45.00 for about a 10 minute session and again I can only go there sporadically.

I used to get palpatations but I take between 250mg to 500mg of magnesium at night just before bedtime and that seems to have eliminated them.

I still wake up almost daily with a racing heart due to morning anxiety.  Boy if I could get rid of this it would be wonderful.

Does anyone else have any ideas regarding the pins and needles sensations?

Sandy

Hi Ladies, I had the burning, prickly skin during the first year or so into meno. It was across my back, face and nose...just like a feather was tickling it...was soooo weird. It freaked me out for a long time. Then I read, on this site actually, that I was not the only one having that and I finally realized that it was a symptom of meno...and a rediculous one at that. Now...I do get the burning, bugs sensation, usually on my arms and chin area and it gets worse if I am anxious about something. I have found that if it happens at night a warm shower or bath helps. I also have incorporated various stress reducers into my life, such as...stretching exercises, a massage once in a while. I bought a personal massager as well. Finding time to be alone to do some meditation or reflexion is good. A good vitamin/mineral supplement is vital too. I also use progesterone cream to help with the hormones...works like a charm. Blessings to you all, Leslie

I have had this on and off for years and now being on. Don't know if it's really associated with anxiety but meno for sure. However it does make me very anxious and feels horrible, like burning all over your back, legs everywhere...even my eyes and my gums. I think it's a lack of estrogen..but I don't know. It goes away for months and then comes back. * sigh * Someone said on this thread that they felt like they had the flu with it...same here. Can't wait to feel good again. Moozie
jimi
Same here moozie. Burning gums - one side, flu like symptoms. sore throat, head ache. (((hugs))) I sympathise. No anxiety though. Shhhh! someone might hear me.

Hello everyone! I found this wonderful site just the other day and can't get anything done for exploring PowerSurge! I too have had that nasty skin tingling/burning sensation. Taking it a step further with small bumps across my chest--almost water blister type and ITCHY. I went to a dermatologist who diagnosed me from 5 feet away with 'sun damage' and had me use a horrid cream (Carac) which burnt off the top layer of my skin. Now the itch and the bumps are worse than ever. I am returning to his partner in hopes he studied human relations along with medicine. So far no one in the med profession will label it 'meno'. They just tell me to take antihistamines and watch what I wash clothes with (duh!) tongue.gif Any thoughts??? I am 51 and I started hot flashes in July and this appeared in August. Flashes aren't horrible, just real annoying. So far. eeeks. When I read how some suffer I feel like a whimp talking about my rash. It's a pleasure to join you all in our search for the truth and assistance in dealing with this interesting time.
debrikkia
hotflashrash, I had a similar thing happen to me--I suddenly developed an asymetrical rash on my entire upper body. My MD wanted me to see an Allergist, and I did see a Dermatologist. He gave me the best advice in the world. I do think that these skin "affections, infections" have something to do with hormonal balance, and there is an easy ad inexpensive way to deal with them. I hesitate to list them here, but you can email me for more info. (I, by no means have anything to do with the sale of any product--I just know what worked for me) Deb

My feet and hands burn...just like I stepped on hot coals. I began taking Biest and am working w/Pete... the burning symptoms have improved..... he is the greatest and really listens and does respond. Have many of you tried contacting the "experts"? Well, all I get is..."your situation is too complicated"...or.."contact your physician"...anything but answering the question...anyway, one of you stated that Pete should be a doctor...he should be the "house" doc as he tries so hard to help. Now my tongue is burning and now I think I have GERD. Gee, what next...
