So, I have been on a tri-cycle pill for two years. There has always been alittle spotting here and there, but the last cycle, very little. So, I go for my yearly, all was great, he asked about the spotting, all good I say. Dont' you know for the last three weeks I have been spotting, just enough for one light pad a day, and some cramping. I have been getting hot again at night too. I am stopping at the end of this pack anyway for three weeks to do a hormones test, but I am just annoyed.
thanks for listening.

Are you on Ortho-Tricyclen or Sprintec or something else?

I feel for you. Same thing happened to me. I went 3 months with no spotting in week 3 like I had grown accustomed to!!! And then I open my big mouth to the doctor and boom!!!! Back to spotting!!!!!!!!
I finally made the decision to go off of them (BCP'S). I tried Ortho tricyclen, and then Ortho Novum 1/35. They wanted me to try Yaz, but i didn't like all the bad stuff I read about it.
I stopped BCP in April and do you know that I got my period 36 days later.....and it was just like the periods I used to have pre-pill!!!!!!!!!!
2 days of heavy flow/medium cramps!!!!! I couldn't believe it. My next period came exactly 28 days later, same thing!!!!!!
Funny how the doc said I would go back to my old periods, I thought it would take some time but that was not the case for me.
I feel better off of them, I said before that I made myself anxious "thinking" about all of the side effects!!!!!!!!
I really don't miss that 2 weeks of light spotting......I'll take my two days of flow and cramps, nothing a heating pad and naprosyn can't make go away!!
Good Luck

Thanks, I am on Seasonique, I know it has a reputation of spotting in between, but that hasn't been constant for a long time. I guess my body is in a fluctuation mode. I think I will cal the doctor this week, just to be sure.

My doctor also said that it is "trial and error" with what works for each individual. Some BCP's work well for one and not good for others. I firmly believe that these newer "low" dose pills are safer for us, but that they also cause spotting because they are not "strong" enough. I just chose to forego them, I was using them as birth control not really to quell any symptoms.
Best of luck to you, always good to check with the doctor.

I think I will call today. I have been using this type for two years, but maybe my hormones are reaching the point (I am 49) that this isn't working anymore. I even feel crampy, it is very annoying. Thanks

Your comment regard the new low dose BCPs not being "strong enough" makes me chuckle. You are referring to the spotting issue but I remember that I was one them for a couple of years way back when they first came out. I thought I might still be ovulating but wasn't sure so I described it to my Dr. and she confirmed that's what I was probably doing. When I asked how we could be sure she replied, I guess we'll find out. Meaning, if I got pregnant we'd know. Suffice it to say, at the end of THAT discussion she put me on a stronger pill! It's sort of funny now but at the time I almost fell off the exam table. Later on however, I did take another low dose pill for several years and did fine with it. No spotting at all and had very light, virtually painless periods and I believe that it helped me get through a few years of peri crap without even knowing it.

My doctor sort of made the same comment to me. I truly believe I still ovulated on the darn things. They just never agreed with me. I went from being regular every 26-28 days like clockwork without the pill, to 2 weeks of spotting on it . No cramps or anything. Like I said I started on them for birth control at 38. Not to quell any symptoms, those came later with the onset of my 40th b-day!!!!!!! So for me it was just a trade off of what I wanted. I used to joke that they were in fact truly "birth control" cuz when you spot for 2 weeks straight who WANTS to have sex??????
Have a great day!!!!!!!

Dear 'enough'
This is quite a common problem and generally indicates that your dosage needs to be upped with something stronger.
I know because I have been through this.
Don't be annoyed because as Hormones decline sometimes a change is needed.
Let us know the results of the Hormone Test
