Full Version: WEIRD PERI SYMPTOMS?
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?

Hi,
I am so glad I found this board. I have read hundreds of posts and really admire the encouragement and help on this board.
I would like to know if any of you ladies have had any of these symptoms before:

Mild Acne that is on the upper breasts and under the arms (more on one breast than the other )

And a weird tingling sensation under the arms (armpit area). I have it mostly in the right arm but occasionally I'll feel a spasm under the left arm. In both arms it feels tingly and sometimes even hurts. My doctor pretty much ignored these symptoms. However, they cause me alot of distress, because in the past year, my once "quiet body" has gone through so much and now I have painful breasts and ovarian cysts and my cycle has shortened and the pains are worse than ever.

I would appreciate any insight or words, because I feel like I am so alone in this.
Thank you!

Okay either we are all crazy, or what... Yes I get the underarm thingy too... Really really weird. I had a few months ago, totally went away, not it's back. Yes it is really hard to describe, just a weird sensation, and yes sometimes a little painful, then bam, gone....

Mild Acne, yep got you covered there too. Esp face, but some on my chest. It's not huge pimple, mainly just little bumps everywhere, and then every so often a little pimple. And heck this is summer, so I have been off of work, not even wearing that much make up... Eating good foods, no more junk, so it ain't the diet, so it must be what, yea, that's it HORMONES.... Ahhh...

I love how you put that, your once quiet body, love it.... Yes, my making a bunch noise too, btw got ya on the breast thing too...

I love how dr's dismiss all of these symptoms, but sooo many of us have the same ones.... At the least, we know we are not crazy...

PS - Welcome to the site!!! It is great site, and hey it's help me keep my sanity, thank God! A great bunch of women...

Oh get the armpit/breast thing too, mine went off after a specialist recommended EPO mega strength x3 a day, which took religiously for 6weeks then got an awful bad upset tummy so stopped them and this pain is BACK.....
Am going to slowly re introduce them,as I think I felt alot better in general, because I,m having symptoms left right and centre just now.

Fortunately haven,t got a crotch spot yet................. ohmy.gif

Dear Paige
A great big warm welcome to this Forum.Great ladies and fantastic support and information

You did not mention your age so perhaps a full Gyno. check up might be a good idea to see where you are hormonally.Do also have your Thyroid checked too as this Gland can be quite a menace.
About the Acne it may,but I am not a Doctor, but could also be related to elevated to high Testerone levels.
The main thing is to remember that you are not alone. We are all in this boat full of holes together.

So please come back often and keep us up-dated
Warm Wishes
Elizabeth

Yeah took me ages on the lingo Becca (EPO) Evening primrose oil was 1000mg per tablet 3x day. Was already taking 1 per day (when I remembered) Specialist said majority of women weren,t taking high enough dosage to do anything... Not sure if it caused my upset tum but its sort of coincided with tum settled now BUT all my symptoms are back with avengance, did feel better on it i must say,but alot of women posted saying EPO?? wink.gif caused upset tum.

And yes isn,t it a RELIEF when you hear others with the same symptoms YOU are not alone

I think the doctors out there today are only trained to do yearly screenings and recognize life threatening disease (then refer you to a specialist). Unfortunately, most doctors don't feel that peri/meno are at all life threatening and if you do insist on a referral to a "specialist" in peri/meno, they all have a different opinion of what's happening. I've asked for hormone blood testing from four different doctors/nurse practitioners, all of them blew me off.

Ah dah, meno or should I say peri-brain, I should of figured that out. I take EPO (there no I got it rolleyes.gif ) twice a day, I will check the dosage, and will surely watch for the tummy... Ain't that something though you find something that helps one thing, but makes another worse...

I agree It took me 5 visits to the Dr,s before they referred me,think you just have to keep going back, stick to your guns,as difficult as that feels sometimes.
A friend of mine,s husband has had multiple tests scans everything you can think of done (nothing wrong with him) but he kicks up a stink

they seem to take men more seriously though don,t they?

Hi Paige:

Weclome to PS!!!

Yes and yes to your questions. I get the underarm thing from time to time and the pains too.

I have noticed the acne too, my kids think it is funny. Haha tongue.gif
Breast pain is no fun either. I have noticed that my breast seems to last a lot longer between cycles too.

Hugs to you,
Jeaninne

I feel like such a cynic, but yes, I do think men are taken more seriously. I actually saw an add in the doctors' office a couple weeks ago about testosterone replacement for men and how men should ask their doctor to check to make sure their testosterone level in within the accepted range. I was furious. If a man's testosterone has an accepted range, why shouldn't women's hormones as well? They can't say that testosterone doesn't have fluctuations (which is the excuse I've gotten for six months when I ask to have blood tests of my hormone levels).

Testesterone levels do decline in men but it is a gradual decline unlike us in peri where we have a lot of fluctuations. I had this same discussion with my naturopath and this is what I learned.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR RESPONDING!
You don't know how I felt so RELIEVED to know that there are others out there who understand (I mean I don't want other women to experience this..but you know what I mean rolleyes.gif --at least I know I'm not going crazy!). I really thought my doctor was not being proactive enough and there must be something seriously wrong that he was ignoring. But, after reading lots on the board (and thanks to your responses), I realize that I'm at the beginning of a new phase (I am 38). I thought I was too young to experience all this (although this past year I started feeling tired and old as the hills--now I realize---. Thanks so much smile.gif

No one mentioned shingles, I'm no doctor but that's what it sounds like to me. I've had it before where it was under one armpit and on one breast. The doctor took one look and dx me with shingles. It cleared up in about 6-8 weeks.

They have to look after the men more carefully because men are more likely to start nuclear wars. wink.gif
