Interesting . . .

I was just interviewed about a large clinical trial in our area sponsored by Wyeth. They said it was to
investigate a new drug to prevent endometriosis (? on the spelling) for post-menopausal women using HRT.
It's going to last 60 weeks.

There are five arms of the study, as I recall: two types of Prempro (regular low dose plus another "type" similar to Prempro, they said), two types of a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) plus their investigational drug; and the placebo. You wouldn't know which you would get, so I declined to participate as I've tried Prempro and the estrogen gives me leg cramps and the progestin makes me crazy depressed. Really. My husband wanted to take away my car keys because he was afraid I might drive my car into a tree. It was one of the worst few months of my life.

But what this tells me, and what different analyses of the WHI study suggest, is that the progestin in Prempro
is perhaps the real problem when combined with estrogen. Otherwise, why fool around with it? To my knowledge,
neither bio-identical or synthetic progesterone/progestin alone has shown health risks.

Just food for thought.
