I run 10-12 miles a day, take B6, B12, black cohosh, Vit E, Vit C, Magnesium, Vit D, evening primrose oil, eat tofu, drink soy milk daily, eat flax seed daily and sort of had the meno stuff manageable at least... but NO. Yesterday I started having flushes again with them interrupting my sleep so now I'm exhausted all over again... how much Vit E should I take? How much evening primrose and black cohosh? Anyone have a working dosage of all this stuff that's giving them good results?

What about isoflavones (spelling)? I saw at the helath food store 500 and 1000 mg - how much should someone take?

Wow just reading all that wore me out tongue.gif

Same thing happened to me mad.gif I was without hot flashes for a few months, I use Progesterone oil , maca and soya but the last 3 weeks they returned and seem to be at least hourly in the day ( Night time I am fine)
The warmer weather might be to blame I suppose, its like any slight increase in temperature sets them off, I dread doing the washing up and exercise (which is supposed to help) I've always hated hot weather and being too hot in general so maybe that's a factor. The only other thing I can think of is that Ive lost weight, but because its been so hard to lose weight I wont give up trying. Guess I have to ride out the summer and hope cooler weather helps.

I was going to ask you about the Maca root, just heard of that...

As for twisteoffate, I feel your pain, I too have been trying all of these things, and last month BAM - Big Time. I was so frustrated, and so upset. This is not to say that I dont think that I am still making progress, because I feel that I am. I think too that is AWESOME that you are running that many miles, more power to you. That is so good for your health, and your heart, so keep it up and don't get discourage....

AS for the weather, for sure, especially depending where you live. I live in south fla, and the humidity is horrible. Honestly for me, although they are a pain, the Hot flashes I have just come to take it. Some months are better than others, the funny thing is when my hot flashes are worse, then my other dreaded symptoms are better. Funny, no offense ladies, but I am typing here in my office, probably 72 degress, and literally I can feel the sweet running down my arms, and I am sorry no deoderant is going to stop that....

The Blach Cohish is suppose to be really good for that, but I not sure on the dosage....

Best of luck, wish I had more solution for ya....

Maca was working great for me at first, it was the only thing I was using but needed progesterone because of other Oestrogen dominance symptoms. With maca you are meant to stop taking it every 6 weeks for a week to let the adrenals take over and you must take at least 1500mg a day for it to be effective, plus it's rich in loads of important minerals, no side effects so worth a go for sure.

Hey, I just bought a bottle of Black Cohosh today and took one dose. Came online to read about side effects, and read that MD's are warning that it can cause LIVER DAMAGE. Bummer! Scared the bejesus out of me!

I'm with all of you. NOTHING seems to help the flashes. I've spent money on supplements, accupuncture, took the dreaded effexorXR and gained 30 lbs and went thru months of withdrawing from it. I also believe that hot weather, hot showers, hot food, hot sex........ anything hot....brings 'em on. It's going on 3 years of this crap for me and I'm so done I could scream, but my body's not done yet.

I hate getting old, and I wish I'd just hurry up and do it!!!!

LOL laugh.gif My son wakes in the AM ans says "Mom, I had to put a hoodie on to eat breakfast and you're waking up hot - how is that possible?!" Its such a drag to try and explain to someone (even my girlfriends who either don't have symptoms or refuse to admit meno because they think it means their "old") because until you've had your body heat up to a boiling point and hen 30 seconds be freezing, you'll never, ever get what we are all going through!

I agree in the grand scheme of things, the flashes are part of this wacky, freaky, miserable thing and to accept it is to be better off I guess... I know my running helps me 1000% mentally, but I do wonder if I am dipping my estrogen even lower - does anyone know how much of the magnesium, B12, black cohosh and other supplements you can take before you're taking too much?

Yep, I think you're right about the hotter temps aggravating the flashes... I'm in Tucson right now and its an average 100-112 degrees everyday!

We're not getting old, we're "transitioning" as I like to think of it biggrin.gif Three years, hm... that means I've got one more to go - although some gals here talk of meno for up to 10 years... crikey if that's the case I'd better start figuring out how to deal better with all these symptoms!

I've been dealing with the hot flashes over 5 years. There have been stretches of time where they were light and annoying and a few weeks once in awhile where they are gone. This past 6 months they are back to being bad again....one after another and strong. Don't know if its the warm weather or what but they are frustrating the hell out of me lately.

So what gives? How do we know what to take, how much to take of it, what to take differently, what to do differently.... its daunting just trying to feel OK from day to day isn't? I swear I do not know what women have done before our generation, but I seriously would have thought someone would have come up with something better than succumbing to cancer-causing hormone treatment - not to mention 1/2 the time the women who opt for hormones feel worse that before they started - its a complete and utter crap shoot!

Hope you feel better soon, I'm just working on staying cool enough to sleep wink.gif

Dear 'twistoffate'
Don't hate me but hot flushes and flashes can on on for years.A very nice lady with whom I took Yoga lessons, fit as a fiddle confessed that she still did get them. She said they were less intense though.
And of course we are all different so hope yours die away very quickly, never to return to haunt you
I am on synthetic HRT-it has worked for me.
I am not advocating this to anyone.I am fully informed and aware of all possible dangers but have decided to put quality of my life before quantity,The responsibility is mine and am very careful about regular check-ups etc.
Have you ever tried Acupuncture? Some ladies have reported good results after a fair amount of sessions.
I live in The Middle East so know all about the heat!

Good Luck
Warm Wishes

I have the hormones here with me; the Climara patch, the progesterone, I'm just honestly terrified I'll be one of the many who actually have worse symptoms from the hormones that I'm currently dealing with - haven't tried the acupuncture as I'm on a rather strict budget at the moment so not devoting funds to even more things I yet cannot afford.

I can't seem to wrap myself around why now they're coming back - I had the hot flashes 100% managed and now, I wake multiple times during the night and early morning with them - lack of sleep seriously affects me (as I know it does so many) so negatively that I can barely think straight. Going to a new alternative doctor on the 11th so I'm praying they'll have some answers for me!

I did get some results from accupuncture for about 3 months. Got my life back. Then, I stopped due to the cost (not covered by my insurance) and the time. I got a period, and immediately afterwards the flashes returned with a vengence. Went back to the acupuncturist, only to discover that they didn't help anymore! I suspect I stopped flashing the first time around because my estrogen level went up in preparation for the light period I'd gotten. I also may have been having a placebo effect. Whatever happened, it was pure heaven not to have the flashes for that time! Made me realize how much my life is affected by them. Profound! The latest information I've been reading online no longer supports the use of accupuncture for relief of hot flashes. BUMMER! I thought I'd found the CURE!

Honestly, I think its a complete crap shoot with all this stuff... we are all so different and so complete unique in our hormonal make up, that we have to individually try what works and accept that even the best remedy is only a temporary bandaid. The BHRT and HRT is always an option, but I will fight like hell to not have to go that route... I juat know too, too many women who have had their systems wrecked from hormones, not to mention the guaranteed weight gain which I am not at all OK with!
