This morning on the Today Show I saw a report that they did on bottled water, and how the tested it for containements, at many were worse than tap water...

So I came online and did a search for Bottle Water, and I came across several articles Bottle Water may contact Estrogen... I was like no way, what's up with that... That's the last thing my body needs in more estrogen, and hello I have been drinking bottled water like crazy, thinking I was helping my body... Ah I think for now on I will just drink my filtered water out of my refrigerator....

Here's one of the articles....

Makes me wonder when my kid wants a pepsi...

So let's see it's in our food, it's in our milk, now it's in our bottled water. Honestly ladies I often wonder, don't you...

(please know I am not one of those fanatics, but honestly the more and more I read, the more and more I wonder....)

I personally don't pay too much attention to things like that....i do think everything in our lives is contaminated, poisonous and can harm us.....but once when DH and i bought his father a fishing tackle box and there was a waring on it that said "may cause cancer" i started not worrying so much about it all....

Unfortunately, there are estrogens in a lot of what we consume. The estrogens leach from the plastic that bottled water is in. Here in Canada, there is a huge push to NOT use bottled water and use a BPA (another very harmful chemical in plastics) free bottle and tap/filtered water. All plastics made with this in Canada have been banned. You'd be surprised how many plastic containers I threw out when we found out about this.
Also, do not freeze the bottled water or let it heat up in your car. Baaaaad. And, no plastics in the microwave or plastic wrap.

A lot of these chemicals are endocrine disrupters, interfering with many endocrine functions. Many people automatically assume that because some of them attach to estrogen receptors that they function as estrogen, but several hormone experts feel that in fact, they block the estradiol our body produces, which causes symptoms.

IN any case, with all the chemicals in our food and the environment, and all the hybridization and gene manipulation of our food, our bodies are under constant assault with foreign substances. No wonder so many of us are such a mess.

I know we can't protect ourselves from everything, nor do I think everything is "out to get us" or is evil. And at the same point I think there is alot of stuff out there that we don't know what we are consuming. Something has to be going on, with all of the advances we have made in medicine, yet cancer will soon beat out heart disease as the the number one killer. Something is up when the average girls start their period keeps going down.

I will not live in a plastic bubble, but I also wont stand in front of the train, so to speak. If I can just make a couple of changes to at the least lower some exposure, surely will.

Personally I believe the worst thing that we do as a society is we don't eat good ole home cooking like we use too. Many either out at fast food places, and a home cooked meal is something that we zap in the micro-wave.... Heck I did this for years...

Just like some ppl say, oh you don't need supplements, or I don't believe in supplements (just like my hubby wink.gif ), I personally feel that our food choices require us to take supplements. I also believe that our food is not as good as it once was. But it just my opinion. Heck as for the bottle water thingy, sure when I first started hearing about the campaign not drink bottle water, I was like oh boy, here we go again... But now w/the Goverment agencies even stating it's better to drink water out of your own tap, makes ya wonder, cuz dang it takes alot for a Goverment Agency to admit anything...

Heck, if wasn't peri, it probably would even be an issue; but until I get past this point in my life, I am just going to more cautious as to what I ingest...

Peacesoul
This has been an issue for many years.

They are called xenoestogens and not only are they seeps into the water from plastic bottles, they are in your foods, our make-up, creams etc.

Ask yourself, why is there 10 x more breast cancer now than 30 or even 20 yrs ago?
Too much estrogen = cancer.

and Becca is right, our food quality is not what is used to me hence why supplements are almost needed.
The best way to get ANY nutrience through food, but unless you're eating totally organic and no JUNK and your colon is clean, then it's not possible.

These scares are real!

I drink bottled water but use tap for cooking. This stuff scares me. You can get a filter for your kitchen faucet but it does not filter out chlorine and fluoride. Even the Brita pitcher does not. I have read fluoride is not good for thyroid. I don't know what to think. Worry about contaminants in tap water and now this stuff from plastics used to bottle water. I try to use spring water and distilled or reverse osmosis-supposedly no fluoride in them. But who knows.

thats it - i give up !!!!

Not to mention the plastic bottles themselves. They have been indicated as one cause of estrogen dominance in women and Lord knows what other maladies.

NEVER put plastic anything in the microwave!! I always use corning ware or pyrex. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles either. Both methods cause chemicals to leach into your food/water.

I avoid them whenever possible. I even have a tall glass bottle that I carry with me to work to drink from.

Yes you can get a kitchen filter, it goes under the sink. Right now I use mainly the water from my refrig, but I do use the water out of the tap to boil with. Also, not for nothing, but I also got a filter for my shower head, and I LOVE IT!!! My skin and hair feels great, even my 10 year son notice the difference in the shower. I live in So Florida, where the chlorine content is really high, so high that when I use to come out of the shower my eyes would be red. We have a camp in Central Florida, whereas the water comes directly from well and there is anything around for miles... Thats when I notice the difference. I would go up there and wash my hair, and though it would of been full of dirt and sand, would basically only need shampoo, but dang w/conditioner my hair was sooo much softer than at home. That's why I got the filter from home...

I just had to put this here, I put it under humor section, but I figured to lighten up the subject, and make everyone smile, I would here...

But since this is a water commerical, I had to put it here too...

Do you know if the under sink filters filter out chlorine and/or fluoride? If you have the money, you can get distillation systems or reverse osmosis ones. I think they. I have the shower head that filters out chlorine. It's great!

Yes that is what I really want, the distillation system, it's on my wish list... wink.gif

The best type of water to drink is from a reverse osmosis, not distilled... distilled water can leach minerals from your body... not a good thing.

There are companies that sell units you can install quite easily under the sink. Unfortunately, they can waste quite a lot of water, so I went on a hunt and found one called a zero-waste reverse osmosis. I had one for years and then I moved and haven't been able to install one in my new place - I miss it greatly. That's the next to-do on my list.

If anyone wants to know where they can get one, let me know and I'll dig out the link.

As for plastic bottled water - the research is showing that the water is no more pure than tap water, so why waste the bottles? And the plastic can leach into the water as a xenoestrogen as someone else wrote. They've also researched with college students to determine how much BPA leaches from the bottles... NOT a good thing. I used to make my hot tea in the morning (in glass) and them pour it into my plastic mug (still hot) to drink after adding some ice (don't like hot tea). After doing some research on the plastic issue, I stopped using the plastic mug for the hot tea and now drink it out of glass. Once it's cooled if I'm going to drink it right away, I'll use the mug but try to limit it.

forgot one thing about reverse osmosis - mine filters both flouride and chlorine - along with a ton of other stuff I don't want to drink

I agree with Becca. Frankly, I'm not sure if I trust the gov't or the water in the plastic bottles. I never know what the agenda is. However, I think we need get back to as close to natural we can get. I have heard tap water has a lot of pharmaceuticals flowing through it. I KNOW the gov't says its all filtered out, but I could swear there were some independent studies that found otherwise. I don't know anymore. I feel like living in this world is a big mind field especially now that I am going through peri/meno.

I would be interested in the link regarding the reverse osmosis filter. Thanks, Mich

I have just started drinking alkaline water which my ND gives me. Has anyone tried it? I know you can buy the systems so that you have access to this water. She swears by it and so do many of her other patients who I just happened to run into as they were in her office filling up their water bottles. Of course, the water makes me feel a bit light-headed for some reason if I drink too much at once(I am sooo weird). Any one else try this water? It can help with high blood pressure, heart problems, skins problems, etc. Very interesting.

The company is Watts Premier - https://www.wattspremier.com/watts/showprod...bjectGroup_ID=2

They have several different models including one that (the WP-4 system) is capable of reducing harmful Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC) like Lindane, Atrazine, 2, 4-D, benzene and others from your drinking water. Most of us wouldn't need this, but it depends on where you live.

The zero waste model is ZRO-4 but it's hard to find on the website but if you email them they can tell you which it is.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the site, I am surely looking into doing this. I also have a filter system on my shower, huge difference! But the only other one I have is in my refig, surely want to add one under sink! So thanks again!!!
