I am new to the board. Currently trying E as Evamist transdermal spray. I am not sure it's working. Any opinions?

Bella,
Is this the one you spray up your nose? If so, I ran into a couple women on another group that really liked it. Often when women have trouble absorbing other forms of transdermal hormones, the nasal route will work for them. How long have you been using it?

Hi BellaLuna,

I tried Evamist for two months, also with lousy results. Have also used Divigel and Estrogel. All three seemed to give me a nice boost for about an hour and then nothing. Much as I dislike patches, they've proven to be the only workable delivery system for me. I wanted to get off the patches and that's why I tried Evamist and the gels. Noticed the difference right away.

Hi Gk,

Thanks so much for your advice. I think I am getting the same feeling as you had. Feel it for awhile then nothing. I am new to this so guess the trail and error
continues!

Hi Sariah,

I think I missed your reply, my apology! Evamist is a transdermal alcohol-based spray which is sprayed on the inside of your arm near the elbow. There is a cone-shaped top around the spray nozzle which makes a perfect circle of the product on your arm. Very fast drying. One spray delivers 1.53 mg estradiol: however, I wonder how much is actually absorbed. I am on my third bottle......so just starting my third month.

I have read many of your posts and thank you for your knowledge.

Bella,
Thanks for clarifying what it is. I know there used to be a nasal estradiol spray that was before my time that several women on another group really liked, but it's been discontinued, not sure the reason, maybe there was a downside to it.

Bella, I tried it and still have some samples but it didn't work for me at all. I'm doing ok with estragel (similar to Evamist only in gel form) but seem to do best with the oral generic of estrace. Good luck... it's not always easy to find something that works.

Carol,
Could you elaborate on the difference between how you feel on the estrogel vs. how you feel on the oral Estrace?
CarolH
Not really, I don't think I feel that much different just that the estrace seems to last longer. I still have to double dose though. Once in the am and again in the afternoon. I always use the estrace in the morning but in the afternoon I'm more likely to use the estragel. I've wondered if I had a 2mg pill if it would last all day but until this very momement it never occured to me to take 2. ohmy.gif Maybe I'll try that in the morning and see how I feel.

Thank you, CarolH,

I am new to all this...........was afraid of estrace, but took it.............then I switched to evamist and now thanks to knowledge for site, now back to estrace again. I think it was the prometrium that I took with the estrace that made me feel badly. Ah, must try the estragel. I do take estrace and then spray evamist as needed.

Stay well,
Bella

Dear Sariah,

I can tell you my difference. I had alot of side effects with estrace, mostly nausea and was worried about the liver.
With evamist, no apparent side effects, but no real affect with my symptoms, namely constant hot flashes, all day and all night. I have all the symptoms. of meno.............but I really miss energy (which is why I took the E) and SLEEP (which is why I took the prometrium.) Now with estrace I get some relief with the hot flashes and energy. But it fades. Tired, but no SLEEP!

Keep giving me your input.

Hey CarolH,

........I think I am trying to up-dose for relief. Thank you for helping me with my symptoms and what I am doing to find relief.

You have made me hopeful............guess that's all we have..............HOPE!

Thanks again, my friend, smile.gif

Hi ladies,

I've read all the posts about Evamist, and am wondering if anyone has any updates? My gynecologist gave me a sample last week after spraying my arm with three pumps! I wasn't really prepared for that, and would have preferred starting with one pump, after being asked if I wanted it first! Anyway, I felt tired, weird, and crabby after that...I don't know if it was the Evamist or just my irritation with the always fun visit to the gyno.

I used one spray daily for the next 6 days, and have done 2 pumps for the past two days...10 days total on Evamist. So far it's not doing anything, especially for the hot flashes. I don't have any more energy, in fact I think it makes me tired. It seems like alot of ladies are doing well on the Estrogel, and I wonder if I should try that instead? Does anyone know how the doses of each compare?

If I stay on the estradiol I know I'll have to add the progesterone very soon, and that will probably be a whole new nightmare. By the way, I'm 53 and 2.5 years post.

Please share any thoughts. Thanks for listening.

Hi:
I am post but suppose to still have high estrogen, confused by that, but I am on progesterone, it was 40mg, she has just increased it to 60mg. I was on HRT and came off for 3 weeks before they done the saliva test, I show low testerone, but she didn't want to put me on that yet. Will have to see how I do on high dose of P. Can I be in Post, if my estrogen is still high?

Hi all,

The Evamist provides 1.53 mg. of estradiol in one spray....that seems high. No wonder it was kind of a jolt when the Dr. gave me three sprays for the initial dose. I see that Estrogel provides .75mg. in one pump, and it seems like alot of you ladies on the board use two pumps a day? Is there a difference between absorption and effectiveness of the spray vs. gel??

Please, those who tried Evamist or Estrogel, do you have any feedback?

Thanks,
Florida

Hi, I hope the link below works. It is the mfg of evamist information site. The Evamist is VERY LOW dose. One pump is less than the lowest .25 patch of vivelle. Estrogel is also very low dose too. (Sorry don't have time to find that link right now.) I had tried both Evamist (3 sprays per day) and the Divigel which is similar to the Estrogel. Both were too low to provide me any relief. The Evamist spray also "hit" my bloodstream way too quickly and made me feel all "jittery" (AND, I'm a high needy Estradiol kind of girl). The gel did nothing for me other than making me bloated 2 hours after using. Finally switched from the vivelled patch (.1 highest dose) to oral fda bio estrace and FEEL GREAT!!!! Sometimes the mode of delivery is as important as the product and dosage used. I continue to use the estrace vaginal cream. Good luck with all of this. Regards, JZZ

A 1.25 dose of Estrogel provides about .75 estradiol dose. Guess that's why some that need a higher dose of E do better on the gels than the new mist. Here's the mfg. link:

JZZ,

Thanks so much for taking the time to look up the info for me. I had looked at the Evamist site, but this- "Each metered dose ensures that patients apply 1.53 mg of estradiol per spray, delivering 0.021 mg of estradiol to the bloodstream with 1 spray" did not register in my foggy brain!

Maybe the Estrogel would work better as it is stonger.

Are you using progesterone too? That will be my next hurdle if I stay on the E. I haven't read many good reviews on Prometrium, which would be the first one I try.

Again, thanks so much for your help!

Hi Ladies,

Well, I got samples of Estrogel and tried it yesterday-one pump. This follows 2 weeks on the Evamist . There is still no improvement in the hot flashes, and I notice that my breasts are sore. Does that mean it's too much?

The Dr. wants me to start 100mg. Prometrium daily, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm nervous with all the negative things I've read about it.

The Dr. said that I could try compounded estrogen/progesterone in one as an alternative. Has anyone tried this? It seems like it might be cheaper with my insurance- maybe $20 if they are combined in one RX. The Estrogel is $40 with insurance. Prometrium is $20. I wasn't planning on $60/month for this, and am surprised that the compounded is apparently cheaper!

Any comments, experience, advice- I could use any and all feedback!

Thanks,
Florida
