I just watched Michael Jackson's Memorial Service. I've always been a very emotional person anyway, but I can't believe how watching this has effected me today. I've been a blubbering idiot for the last two hours. I always loved his music, but I only knew what the press has said about his personal life all these years. Listening to the people who knew him as a real person moved me more than I can say. And when his daughter, Paris, spoke about how much she loved him and what a good Daddy he was, I completely lost it.

Rest in peace, Michael. smile.gif

I was moved also. I think this might have been the first time I really saw him as just a person. It's all very sad and tragic. What a talent he was.

Gone too soon.......
yetta

I watched with tears in my eyes; so many with so much to share.
And yes...the most poignant of all in one sentence, the words of his daughter.

RIP MJ

the music plays on. . .

EveningPrimrose
It was beautiful. He was a very misunderstood man. I hope the gutter snipe press leave him alone now.

You'd need as magifying glass to see that rolleyes.gif I dont need to watch the video again to see that the whole family were genuinely upset and grieving....

I did not watch the service because of our time difference, but now I am sitting watching the morning show and the rerun of the service.
I have tears in my eyes, a very moving touching service..

I usually keep quiet on PS but your insensitivity is offensive. A beautiful grieving little girl who loved her daddy is what I saw.
RhondaP
I thought the service was beautiful.I too cried the entire time.I can't imagine what it would be like to have one of my children pass away before me.Thats a hard pill to swallow. I feel so bad for his children.I will keep the whole family in my prayers.

R.I.P Michael

Let's not turn this into another argumentative thread. So far all the posts are fine, and we are all entitled to our opinion, so let's not GO THERE.

Anyone tempted.... please refrain. PLEASE biggrin.gif

I thought the service was wonderful. I couldn't believe how fast they could throw that all together. Editing all those clips is not an easy thing to do.

I loved it... all of it. Very touching.

I quite agree lets not turn it into an argument. But....don't you realize who is always trying to start something on "ALL" the posts..
the same person, it makes me wonder who is really posting on Power Surge sometimes. Are we all women on here??!! That is all I have to say!
nc53215
i dont know where you are all from but here in the U.S. we have a right to our own opinions, and this is mine - i would not waste a tear of sorrow for any memorial for him, when was the last time you all shed a tear for a souldier that came home in a box ? thats a real hero, and where i would put my tears of sorrow- sorry again if that offends any one but its my opinion, the day jackson died does any body know how many souldiers gave their lives that day also ? god bless the usa- and thank you to the men and women who paid the ultimate price!! bless those familys....

Then start a thread honoring the men and women of the military. This one is about the memorial service for Michael Jackson.

Oy Vey!!

Exactly my thoughts, Leanne! This is a thread about Michael Jacksons memorial - not about the military.

I can say this, I LOVED him when I was kid.
He kicked butt when he was a young man!
I didn't think he was the king or better than anyone else though

I feel sad for his kids. I feel sad for anyone who has a hard life like Michael

it was a very touching and beautiful memorial. it has opened my eyes to the fact that each of us can touch someone's life in some way, no matter how big or small. i've never been one to really listen to the words of his music until today and realized that this man had such a compassionate, giving heart and this is an area that i, for one, really need to work on. i am truly impressed with his desire to help so many others.

I thought it was very tasteful and touching. It's sad that it takes his death for people to finally realize what a gentle, kind and loving humanitarian he truly was. At least that is how I will remember him.

EveningPrimrose
It was also a very personal memorial. I can't believe they arranged it all in such a short time. Was it 5 days or something like that?

I'm OK, leanne. Thanks for the hug. I'm just really surprised that anyone (even if they didn't care about Michael Jackson) would want to post something on this thread that speaks ill of the dead. It never ceases to amaze me how often there is always those few people who seem to get off on other people's pain. I realize everyone is entitled to an opinion, but for a subject this sensitive, a kind and compassionate person, who might totally disagree, or unrelate with those of us who are grieving, would hopefully just read the thread (or not) and just move on.....
nc53215
in other words dont post unless we have the same veiw or feelings ? and who here has never "hy-jacked" a thread?unintenually ! or veered off into a different topic? lets start with the "woman" in the mirror...
davinci817
I caught some clips of it on several of the news websites. It was very well done and it does make you see him as the human being he was.
Floater
I was one of the few that never truly believed all the bad press about MJ. I think he was an easy target....he was kind of a freak show with all the plastic surgery, etc. But I always believed he had a gentle heart and a beautiful soul. Maybe I am living in denial, but I don't care...this is how I felt about MJ while he lived, and shall continue to believe.

The service was very well executed.....Germaine almost losing it singing "Smile", with his eyes obviously full of years was heart wrenching. Paris speaking of her Daddy, being the best Dad in the world...ya, I admit it...I had real tears (kind of felt stupid too!! LOL!). I agree with those of you who said this memorial did make Michael seem like a real person, and not the tabloid freak show we have become accustom to seeing. He was very well loved, by his family, his friends and his fans. He will be missed....and yet, he will live on forever.
joliejacq
I caught the last hour of the memorial by accident - turned on the telly to get my exercise tape ready. Then I sat mesmerized. (I came in when Germaine was singing "Smile," and within a minute, I was crying! The sight of Paris speaking about her father just undid me... Those poor children.

It's obvious that Michael was so very loved by his family and friends. He was an extraordinary entertainer. May he rest in peace.

I saw it and I maintained my composure til Paris got up there...then the tears came.
My heart aches for those poor kids and the rest of the family. And yes, for the record, my heart breaks everytime I hear of losing someone in the military as well. They are heros and we need to honor them to, but I agree in another thread.
Anytime someone loses a loved one it's heartbreaking if you have any compassion as a person. I didn't know Michael personally and obviously never will, but his family and friends did and they know the 'real' Michael and are torn up at his loss. So let's have a little respect for them, please.
He was a great talent and will live on that way and many people will enjoy his talents for many years to come.

I haven't been able to get the song "Smile" out of my head................ sad.gif

I didn't get a chance to watch it. I took my little grand daughter to the zoo yesterday and we had a ball. I got bits of it on the news. It was really sad to hear poor little Paris. I would like to see the whole memorial. Does anyone know if it's available to watch online.

I had it recorded and was going to finish watching it this morning, but I got a new satellite reciever today and everything I had recorded went with the old one.

I am extremely disappointed! I was SO looking forward to watching the rest of it today!

Does anyone know what channels the memorial service was on? I have Directv, but none of them show the memorial service in the listing, that I can find.

Thanks a bunch!

I thought it was so beautiful, and I had a hard time keeping enough tissues.....
and also an overwhelming portrayal of all the Good Michael did in this world,
and a reminder of messages of World Unity and Peace.

Paris - what a brave girl. Oh I lost it when she spoke.....
And All of it was just incredible - Brooke, Al Sharpton, the Picture of Michael in all white in Mid jump,
Queen, oh it was a lot to take in. Glad to have been there watching on tv.
