I'm 46 and haven't had a lot of symptoms yet beyond skipped periods, stronger mood swings and occasional weepiness, and worsening hypoglycemia. Have always had mild hypoglycemia, but lately have been having more episodes, slight nausea and wooziness that reminds me of morning sickness. I've read on this board different ways of coping with low blood sugar. Someone mentioned you should avoid fruit as well as sugar--something I haven't heard before. Is that true? I do the protein meals and small meals and sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

I know vision begins to deteriorate in your 40's. I've been nearsighted all my life. Now I seem to be both nearsighted and farsighted. The glasses prescription I got last year already seems inadequate and is bothering my eyes. I have had floaters before--only have one at the moment, thank goodness. I was wondering if peri affects your eyesight and hastens worsening vision (or maybe it's too much time on the computer *g*).

Does soy help with the low blood sugar? I am thinking of trying soy, but the low blood sugar, so far, is the only really bothersome symptom. I can deal with the mood swings, etc, but I really hate the light-headedness of low blood sugar, and I'm having more difficult getting my blood sugar back under control. I haven't had a period since March and my period started rather feebly today, but I still feel sickish from the low blood sugar. Doesn't your period starting mean the hormone fluctuations have settled down a little bit? Or I am misunderstanding how it works.

Hi Mara,

I just wanted to say that chromium is very good for hypoglycemia. It will help balance it out. Just make sure you get a good brand. I would stay away from the soy, because that will effect your hormones even more. Unless you've had them checked and you think it would help. Small meals are the best, stay away from processed foods. The fruits to stay away from are the ones that are high in sugar. Raw nuts are a good snack for in between meals to keep your blood sugar up. If your having nausea, try eating only 1/2 grapefruit at nite (no sugar on it) and get some ginger root and make some tea. Preferably organic if possible. The ginger root is good for nausea, you could also take some raw organic apple cider vinegar.
