I was telling a friend of mine how I started taking progesterone and gained 20 pounds that I can't get off no matter what. She says that I need to ask my doctor to give me a little tiny bit of testosterone and that would help me to lose this weight. She says that it is a testosterone deficiency. Has anyone heard of this and tried it? And if you did it...does it help to lose weight? Could low testosterone be a possibility? If this question has been asked before I apologize, I am just confused.I have been so worried about estrogen and progesterone that I overlooked testosterone. Does the doctor test for low levels of this?

I am not sure, but I am off to see a gyn tomorrow to find out these things myself! I really want to try a wee bit of the T. I think it will help with energy, with muscle mass and yes, even with weight loss.

I will let you know what I learn!!

I have been using T for two years and I have found if I am not careful it can make me more hungry! I actually gained weight in the beginning because the dose was too high.
I have never lost weight from using it. At the correct dose though, because it gives me so much energy I manage to eat more or less what I want and not gain weight.
The moral of the story is-don't use too high a dose and you will be buzzing around with energy and chances are you may lose some weight. Good luck!

Your doc should test for testosterone, too.
If you are low, you should supplement!

The below article might also give you some clue of what is going on with you....

Happy, Reading!

I was on the low side.

your mood, energy levels , skin tone, and body fat distribution.

I found this information... It talks about testosterone, studies of E & Progest., and weight loss.

I found it to be very readable and informative. This article is worth the read!

Please note that this is the work of two doctors and I found it in "Think Muscle." It is a very good article. I hope this helps! If you are interested in adding Testosterone, I would take this article to my doc.
Although testosterone is great, it can be disastrous if you get too much. My doc says that at the low levels he gives, he has never seen a problem, other that increased facial hair (lip-chin). He then can drop the dose or you can pluck, shave, wax, or lazer...

Thank you shebee, I am going to schedule an appointment with my doctor now to see if testosterone is right for me.

I went to see my gyn today, and we discussed the testosterone issue. He has agreed to let me try it for 3 months, and I think the dose is tiny, which is good!! He didn't test blood levels, I think he believes in giving BHRT/HRT symptomatically rather than by blood levels. I am showing no signs of having too much T, which happens to some menopausal women...but it is visible to the naked eye!!

I continue to display low estrogen symptoms on my body (like body hair loss for example) which absolutely does not happen if you have high T levels.

He also Rx'd Vagifem tabs, 2 times a week, forever. I have no dryness or vaginal atrophy at all (whew!) but he feels in order to AVOID it, I should be using the vagifem, and was quite surprised I wasn't on it already.

I won't get the T until Friday, and of course will be prescribed in Canadian measurement, metric, rather than american.....which really bums me out because I would love to compare what others are using to what I have been given.

I don't expect weight loss from the T, although I am HOPING for more energy, so I can work out harder and gain more lean muscle mass, which in turn will burn more calories, which will in fact result in weight loss. LOL!! Could you follow that???

I hope you get some positive experience form the T Kathy. Keep me updated. I finally started mine yesterday and went with only .25 of a ml despite my script being for half to one full ml.

Floater,
I was on 1 mg of T when I used BHRT, once a day, it did not prevent me from gaining 25 pounds in 3 months, even I did not change my diet when I used BHRT.
I was on sublingual T, Bi-est, and Progesterone; and pregnenolone and DHEA orally.
I am sure 1 mg is not a small dose, but I did not see any improvement in terms of weight loss/muscle gain.
Best,
I.
