Hi Gals!

I've been posting past week about my post menopausal cramping. Had Dr visit last week and my ultrasound was great, but my endometrial lining is 8.4 and my Doctor says she wants to do a biopsy and unfortunately because I totally wig out over health issues, I've been a mess! I haven't had irregular bleeding or anything and like I said, my pelvic ultrasound was fine other than the lining.

What I would like to know is, has anyone had this high of lining (they like it under 5), and they have had a CLEAR biopsy? The thicker the lining, the more it can turn into cancer.............

Please, please advise. I am 61 and of course I'm right at the age for this type of thing. I'm trying so hard to remain as calm can be!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Thanks ever so much!

Hi Kathy

I had endometrial cancer and mine was diagnosed after a biopsy and ultrasound. I can't remember what my endo lining was but it was very much higher than yours. I was also having a very bothersome symptom of a heavy watery discharge and felt generally ill and depressed.
You probably haven't got anything to worry about and there is always the chance that you may be getting a rogue period coming on-hence the cramping. I understand you can still get them even when you think they are all finished.
The biopsy will tell you for sure if there is anything to worry about but I bet everything will be ok.
Maybe some other ladies will be along to further reassure you.
Good luck and do let us know the result.

Kathy,
My lining was thicker than 8.4. I had several biopsies. It came back with abnormal cells, not cancer. I ended up having to get a D&C. It wasn't bad at all. They got rid of the extra lining and found a polyp and removed it. Doc thinks the polyp was causing all my problems. I have been fine ever since. Be sure you get the biopsy just to make sure everything is ok. Your doc may just prescribe hormones to you so you can shed the lining (I tried that too but it kept coming back).

Can I ask a stupid question ? How does the doctor check the thickness of the endometrial lining ? and what prompts them to check it ? thanks
janet c

A sonogram.
Lots of different things will prompt a check. Any unusual spotting, bleeding, cramping-anything untoward.

Yes, like Janet C said. My main symptom was spotting. That's what got me in for the ultrasound. They can measure the thickness using the ultrasound. Then came the biopsies.
