huh.gif hi everyone....i just posted this on the AM I STARTING PERI forum.....i forgot this forum was here, so i'll post it here as well ...........................

ok, today when i was waking up, laying on my back, (BEFORE i even moved at all) my heart started to "flutter".... it only lasted about 5 or 6 seconds or so ... but, it was scary! I was just laying, waking up, opening my eyes.....and POW here it came! I felt it FLUTTER, it sort of sped up, and beat so fast that it fluttered .... i wouldn't say it "vibrated" because that would be considered internal vibrating or shaking...that wasn't it......yet, in a way, you COULD say it "vibrated" I guess....but it was more of a FLUTTER....fast! I just laid there, petrified.......i've had so many diff. heart symptoms over the past few years...it's beat fast, SLOW, (to where you almost don't think it's even beating), it's skipped beats, i've had that "third beat" thingy, all sorts of feelings in there........but this was new. This was a FLUTTER, and it was fast .... i didn't feel lightheaded at the time, as if oxygen wasn't getting to the brain, I didn't feel nauseas at the time, (i did feel slightly nauseas later, which i think was due to fear).....just the very fast flutter. I know peri does this sort of thing, but, i would like to know,,if anyone else has had THIS type of FLUTTERING......right now, it's about 6 days after my period ended, and i'm ovulating, maybe that has something to do with it, i dont know.....

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS?

YES! I have this, almost every night when I lay down and start relaxing to go to sleep. It IS scary! My heart has been doing it for so long now, it doesn't bother me like it used to. Try not to worry too much. smile.gif

Hi Mydarling!

Yes, the flutters come and go. I had for a period of time in peri and now I am experiencing them again and I have been w/o a period for 8 months. Just this past week they came back. Mine seem to go off and on all day! I've heard good things about Co Q 10. It's a supplement. I am taking one each day to see if it helps get these nasty flutters under control.

Try not to worry, I think they are common as we get older. Hope you feel better soon!

Hugs, Juliann

After a few flutters in a row, I usually get tired and sleepy. Is this common for anyone with the palp problem? sad.gif

Hi,

I've had the heart fluttering for years now. I had some tests run and found that I have mitral valve prolapse. However, my mvp is different then my palpitations. I didn't have palpitations until peri. Their's a big difference in the feeling of each of these. The mvp, feels kind of like a butterfly in my heart, and when I get palpitations, it feels as if my heart is going to beat out of my chest (when it's bad) So, it is possible if it's just fluttering it could be mvp. It used to scare me alot, but when it happens now I just say, oh it's just that so I don't get to excited about it anymore. It's a pretty common ailment especially amongst woman. If you really want to know if you have it, ask your doc to test you for mvp.

I've had both too, I've got 2 leaking heart valves. (that was wild to watch on the sonogram)

What journey has describe is about as close a description as one could have for both. The palps are on a more grand feeling of things then the fluttering. But the fluttering can stop in my tracks for a few seconds. Just feels weird!!!

One word: Magnesium.

A few years ago I started with the heart palps, but learned that I was magnesium deficient. I take 250 MG every night. I rarely have them now unless I'm under a lot of stress.

Some people need 500 MG, but start with 250. Too much can give you the runs.

I noticed a difference within a few days. Very calming. There is something called Nature Calm that is a combination of magnesium and either vitamin D or calcium. It's a vitamin supplement.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and from what I hear, the palps can't hurt you. Just kind of scary.

Hi......yes, I've had this too. If you've had yourself checked out, you shouldn't put a lot of fear into this, although I realize every time our heart beats "funny" it's a reminder of our own mortality. If you can breathe ok, you should be just fine. I'm not a Dr., but just know that even if we're laying still, our mind, on a subconscious level, is "thinking" and shots of adrenaline caused by anxiety can cause the flutters. You're not alone.

Hi I to have had this, and still do.
I can lay in bed reading and be okay and then move onto my left right side and suddenly I feel flutters.
I am not sure what this is other than it started in my 40's.
I do notice it's not so bad since I started taking mag. supplements.
I have gone thru all sorts of bad things- heart issues, anxiety, hot flashes..... since I hit age 44- that was the beginning.
It's just so sad--- you feel great one day and then it just seems to be one bad thing after another.
I try and stay positive but find it hard when I look in the mirror each morning and realize I'm turning into an old lady!! LOL
It just *****- but keep a sense of humor tongue.gif

That is what happens to me! I can be sitting up and be fine and then lay down on my side and for me it can be either right or left side and the fluttering will start but if I sit back up they go away.

Yes, I have had this symptom, too. It's crazy. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has a doctor who understands all these crazy meno heart symptoms and can give us some good explanation for them (besides, "It's just hormones"), and tell us WHEN this all might stop!

Ms. Anxiety
Yep, I've had the racing and the fluttering. I've had a full cardiac work up. Som times my heart goes "glunk" and they call it a PVC (premature ventricle contraction), sometimes it flutters and the beats are not in rhythm and they call that A-fib. It is a good idea to get a cardiac workup. Because I have A-fib, I need to take a baby asprin each day to prevent stroke.

Both fish oil and magnesium are supposed to help. My Dr. said that in Europe it is considered malpractice if a Dr. doesn't recommend fish oil for patients with irregular rhythms. Maybe some of our European posters can confirm or refute this info.

For me I think the racing is sometimes anxiety and sometimes part of a hot flush. It also seems to be affected by the foods I eat. For example, when I first started taking vitamin D, I tried the fish oil vit. D pearls. For whatever reason my heart went into the strangest beat pattern for at least 45 minutes. Also, if I eat dessert frequently or have coffee it affects my not so stable blood sugar and can increase the frequency of irregular and racing heart beats. It's either blood sugar or GERD.

So you see, you are in good company.

I've had this type of thing for over 25 years - noticed it more so at times now during meno.
