I've been using a Vitamin B complex which makes me too wired. I like the daytime energy, but not worth it. I also get a monthly B12 shot. Here's what's in the capsules:
Thiamin (B1) (thiamin HCL) 75mg (5,000%)
Riboflavin (B2) 75mg (4,412%)
Niacin 50mg (250%)
B6 85mg (4,250%)
Folic acid 800mcg (200%)
B12 500mcg (8,333%)
Pantothenic Acid 50mg (500%)
Choline Bitartrate 100mg --
I'm thinking of trying a transdermal B complex, and want to compare ingredients/mgs with the above. Anyone know which of the B's above is most likely to keep me so wired? Maybe the mgs are way too high?
Thanks.

I think it is hard to isolate which ones will keep you wired. I tried a mega vitamin B complex a while back and I obviously didn't need such a high dose because I was wired too!
My sister has used them when she was very low and depressed and they just "mended" her brain. As soon as she didn't need them any more they hyped her up.
Anything which increases serotonin above normal levels can be overstimulating.
Maybe you just plain don't need so much?
I tried cutting my tabs into three (they were 500 mg) and taking them first thing in the morning, but after a couple of days I didn't need them any more.
Lets face it, we should be able to get all our vitamins from a balanced diet. Sometimes we do fall short and have to supplement-but not forever.
Maybe you are just zinging with vitality now?

Possibly thiamine (B1), since it is involved in the Krebs cycle and is necessary to product ATP for energy.

Not sure. I also take b-12 injections and they don't keep me awake but I feel great in the day time, full of energy.

Gosh I don't know. Perhaps my only suggestion is to goggle the vitamins, and see. That does seem like a large dosage, but then again who is to say. I do find this part so confusing myself, what is enough and what is too much....
Good luck, and please if you find any additional information please post. It's like we all have to be are own doctors, ya think....

I don't know but maybe you could stop the monthly injections for a month or two and see if it makes any difference???? I have not too long ago started w/ a B complex and did for awhile notice that it made me feel better. Due to recent personal issues I've not felt the energy but I don't think it's the vitamin's fault, if you will. I have noticed that I need less sleep. Some nights I'm wide awake and up until 2 or 3AM which I NEVER do and then wake up around 7 or 8 and can get up and go to work pretty much as normal. Just know that it does give me more energy overall. Maybe you could take the B complex every other day??? Just a suggestion.

I agree and also would look into B6 and Niacin. B6 makes me very jittery, and Niacin makes me flash. JMI

B1 acts as a chelator (extracting metals) and this can cause anxiety or the jitters since your liver is being engaged.
You can find a B Comlex in lower doses which may help

Thanks, everyone. As if menopausal insomnia isn't enough......
Switched back to my usual brand of Super Nutrition Energy Caps and immediately lost that wired sensation. The stuff listed in the op is Enzymatic Daily B Complex which for me was just waaaay too much of a good thing. btw B12 shots have never made me feel wired.
I appreciate your responses.
Thanks again.

Just read an article in a men's magazine that if you take B vits at night you'll have bad dreams. Lumz

I try to stay low on my B's, because they increase my anxiety, and make me irritable/edgy.

I just read something that said B-12 helps insomnia (vitamin D too). Something about it helping our own natural melatonin. Just don't take any of the b's in the evening as they can be energizing.

I just read too much B's can cause insomnia and B6 too many dreams.I was having tingling in my feet and anxiety and thought B's would help way over did it I think.RDA is only B62-2.5mg and B12 4-6mcgs so those B50's seem a little high, and I was taking a B12 on it's own 500mcg that's like a hundred times the RDA.Read the side effects of high dose of these vit's you'de be surprised. For now I'm cutting back and hopefully feel better.
