I have a question. At times I get a headache on the top of my head. I know it can be sinuses. I had finished an antibiotic last Monday for an infection and still every now and then it comes back. I have had some stress this past week too. My neck between the c5 and c6 vertabrae are sort of compressed too and my neck has really been bugging me along with really bad tmj. Do you think it's connected? I had a tomograph of my head done in Dec. by a tmj doctor who said the good news is there is no brain tumor or anything, so I guess I should be happy. I had a brain mri two years ago too and all was fine. I know I have had this before over the years, but it is annoying. Maybe a visit back to the chiropractor is a good idea. I didnt' finish the treatment I started becasue it was too expensive, but I guess I need to go back.

Any thoughts would be wonderful. thanks

((((((((enough)))))))) I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. I've had a headache for over 3 years now and no one knows why. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you both. I have been looking back over older posts and googling scalp pain and think it's either tension, tmj or sinus. They all seem to be similar. I will just have to deal with it. I hope you are both well. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

I suffered pain on the top of my head - always the same side, also scalp tenderness. My husband who's a doctor said it can be referred pain from sinuses as I recall. I also had neck and posture problems so I suspect that might have contributed as well. It just stopped on its own. It wouldn't surprise me if TMJ contributes either.

Thank you, it's good to hear that. I have been looking up the connections and know it must be one or more of these culprits that make it all add up to the pain. The tmj is particularly bad right now. The spot by the joint, the ear pain, etc, UGH!!! I am trying to just do soft food and warm compresses. I did go to the chiropractor for the first time in a month and that helped the neck a bit. At least I can move it better. I guess a sinus infection and stress made it all kick in again. I hope you are well.

I know exactly how you feel, 3 years I developed chronic headaches that I could only describe as a nail going through the top of my head. I had a tight feeling on the side and intense scalp tenderness,,,,, 3 head CT's later and lots of sinus medication they gradually went away. I suffered for a good 6 months. And now they have returned and with a vengance. I know my sinuses are messed up because I am sneezing and I have constant drainage down the back of my throat. I am totally convinced that this is all part of the big underlying problem and that would be menopause. I will tell you that the last 4 years have been miserable for me, I have gone from acid reflux, ibs, headaches, body aches, crazy female problems, and now I am coming full circle back to the horrible headaches. I will tell that these boards have helped me so much, just getting on and reading about how it is for other people has really helped me. My doctor thinks I should just go with the flow of all of this.......Whatever!!!
Enough I look forward to hearing from you!!

I am sorry this is happening to you too, but I have to say, it is always comforting knowing you are not alone. I agree, meno messes up everything. I have had all you listed too, but this head can really get me. My sinuses are probably the culprit, I am sneezing, sniffling, etc, and the tmj adds to it. I use the neti pot, nasal spray, ( just got a new one from the chiropractor and am anxious to try it), nothing really works, anithistamine blocks the sneezing, but you really need a decongestant for the pressure and they make me jittery, so I guess we just learn to live with it.

Thank you all so much, I feel better knowing I am not alone.

I use nasal spray and it does help, the kind that has a steriod in it, which does help the swelling. I am convinced that the middle sinuses are swollen and that is reason for all of the strange feelings inside of my head. I have never tried the neti pot. Have a great Saturday.

I am believing this is sinuses. My are so clogged today. Just brushing my hand by my eyebrows sends pain running through me. My nose is so stuffed and I can feel the post nasal drip. (sorry gross, I know). Last night I had a doozy of a head pressure, thought I would actually throw up laying in bed. I was at a bbq all day, so being outside for 8 hours didn't help, then we sat around a fire pit for a few hours and the smoke was brutal. Today the pressure is in my nose and temples, I am sure it will creep up to my head.

I just want it to stop. i am so frustrated.

Hi everyone, just reading and feeling sad so many are suffering but feeling better that I see I'm not alone. Had to stay home from Sunday School again because of horrible headache, sinus pressure, nausea and just feeling over all BLAH! My husband was so good, bless his heart. He usually pushes me to go knowing I will feel better if I get to church but today, I sat up and he took one look at me and said "how bout if you just get some rest and I'll take Bella (our GRANDdaughter) to Sunday School". So now I feel really spoiled too wink.gif He brought me coffee, made me eggs (and prodded me to eat even though I didn't feel like it), got my meds and sat and held my hand. Lord, do I love this man!

Sorry hehe! didn't mean to get off the subject, just thinking how wonderful he was this morning. Today is my youngest GRANDsons 1st bday so hoping I get to feeling good enough to go to his party.

Praying everyone will have peace and comfort even in these times of stress and discomfort.

Oh sorry, my mind totally went in a different direction when I started to post. Wanted to say, I take Claritan, use Flonase and another sinus med called Lodrane. Even with these, my headaches have begun just recently, with a vengence, as someone put it. I too am under stress but even as the stress eases up the headaches aren't.

One thing I started doing to try and help myself was, I went to YouTube and made me up a playlist of Nature Sound videos. I try to lay down and just listen and relax. I usually wind up falling right to sleep sleep.gif but it has been a nice little addition to trying to get some relief.

Here's some thoughts from a sinus/migraine headache veteran. When the top of your head is hurting, jump up and down on a hard surface and notice whether it makes your teeth hurt with a sense of dull pressure. If so, it's probably sinus. In that case, decongestants if you're OK with that, plus tons of liquid. And no milk products. Then try this -- get an ice pack that will fit around your neck and two microwavable heat packs. Have them ready and go lie down. End up lying down flat with one heat pack over the top of your head, one around your ankles, and the ice pack around your neck. A holistic practitioner taught me this trick and it definitely helps me.
Good Luck.

Thank you both, I will certainly give these ideas a try. I am looking for relief when it hits. I took some claritan today and it is holding off so far. I really appreciate your responses. Thanks so much.

OK, I admit I'm gonna feel pretty silly jumping up and down tongue.gif BUT at this point I am willing to try anything. Thanks so much for the advice! Hope you get some relief too 'enough'.

I found that when I really rub this part of my head, my nose feels like the stuffiness starts to break up and then I get post nasal drip. Sooooo, this must be allergies/sinus stuff. I have been sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes, etc as well. The tmj could be adding to it, my jaw, teeth, ears, are a mess too. It could be connected. Either way, whatever it stems from, i am happy to know if I rub the area, I get relief, so I think the heat on the top of the head would do the same. I hope you all feel better.

Hi....did you ever get the top of the head pain figured out? I've been having it the last week or so along with an occasional burning on the top of my forehead. Just curious if it went away ............. Thanks!

It comes and goes, when allergies are in full swing like they are now, it gets bad, otherwise it's fine. I have TMJ and sinus problems and currently am experiencing intense ear pain, pain around the ear and down into the neck. My fore head, eyebrows, and cheeks hurt too,but everything is clear, so I know I need a decongestant, but I get sooo jittery I hate to take them, but maybe with a xanax... I dont know anymore, I am just so frustrated I could cry.

Sorry, I got off topic, I am just having a rough time of it.
I am also sorry it took so long to get to you, my computer has been on the blink and I just got it back.

I hope you're feeling better today. It seems like this year has been terrible as far as this type of "stuff". Thanks for responding. I take xanax too, maybe I should take more to quit focusing on these problems.

I don't take xanax too often these days, but when I need it and finally give in I am amazed at how good I really feel. I never feel high, tired or any different, just normal. I used them last week when I drove my daughter to school 6 hours away, it helped me to be calm while driving, it was the smartest thing I ever did for myself. I hope you feel better too.

PS red wine also helps me feel good!! of course I dont' want to start that habit, but every now and then......

Thanks for responding~ Interesting you should mention the xanax, because I've experienced the same thing. I'm finding that I allow myself to take it (even though I don't want too) and it does make me feel better without being tired, etc. Bet hormones and sinus/allergies are the culprit for all of this. Better days ahead!

yes, a good cold snap should help with the allergies. Until then, we just keep plugging away. Good luck to you too!!!

I found out I have sinus disease, so I suffer just like you. What I have been doing over the past few weeks is using a Nettie Pot, have you tried that?

I have to say, I am super skeptical about things like that, but I was desperate so I went and bought one. I will say that after figuring out how to hold my head the right way, it really does help. I have alot of inflammation in my sinuses and I get head pain, terrible migraines too. I can breath so good right after I do the Nettie Pot.

Food for thought.

Yes, I have one and use it now and then. It works temporarily for me, but better than nothing and it's not a drug so that's always good.

I hope you feel better too!!!

I bought something that looks like a giant syringe at a health food store. The tip totally fits into your nostril, so you don't have to tip your head or anything. It's called Nasaline. My sinusitis is so bad that I not only syringe up my nose, I snort it. I have to use a solution of 1/2 t salt and 1/2 t baking soda for that lovely. And top off with a steroid nasal spray. If I get really bad, I will start out with Afrin, wait ten minutes, flush out the ol' nose and finish up with flonase. Likewise with the head pain and migraines. I go to a massage therapist to help loosen up my tight neck muscles, which in turn, give my aching head a break. Cripes, and I use hormones! But with family issues and whatnot, I am an anxietal mess.

Thanks, that is worth a try, when my sinuses are flaring up (which seems to be constantly) I am ready for anything. I hope you feel better. too.

oops, make that 1/4 t. baking soda and 1/3 t. salt. Senior moment!
