Hi Ladies!

I posted this and somehow it got put under Heart Issues.

I have had cramping off and on since going through this wonderful phase and I am now 62. I have had about 3 pelvic ultrasounds for the cramping and so far so good. I had my yearly in February and Doc said as we age and go through this time, ovaries shrink and it is so much easier when an internal exam is done, to feel 'things'............So here I am 4 years later and now here is the symptom again!

I'd love to hear from any 'posties' out there that experience this as well????????

Thanks,

Kathy

Hi Kathy. I see you haven't had any responses to your query, so I will be the first! I had a TON of cramping all through peri and meno. Now I am about three years post and for the last three years, I have had not only pelvic cramping off and on, but ovarian pain as well. It scares me everytime....I think the worst of course, ovarian cancer, and then I go in for a vaginal ultrasound and every thing is ok, although it did show a very small fibroid last year. I've actually been having one of those crampy times for the last week or so, accompanied by pain in my left ovary. As I just had my annual, my gyno suggested once again that I have an endovaginal ultrasound, and once again I'm worried. Someone else on the Postmeno board mentioned the same thing your doctor said about our ovaries shrinking as we age. I guess that makes them become more sensitive to changes or manipulation. Well, if you and I and several other women at PS have cramps and aching ovaries so many years after becoming postmeno, I guess we shouldn't be too concerned. It's most likely just our hormones letting us know that they aren't through with us yet!!

Dear 'GETOVERIT"
Got to love that user name.It makes me laugh as when I was telling someone how difficult Menopause can be she looked at me as if I were mad and said just those words.
I am 58 and was Post Menopausal since age 39 so have been on HRT continuously.
When the Gyno. persuaded me to come off it last year it was hell.Insomnia, depression, anxiety and yes even some bleeding. So back to the Gyno.Full check up and all in good working order.I demanded my HRT back though and he reluctantly wrote the \script whilst saying "I hope we know what we are doing"
I said "Well I do know, but maybe you should go without Testosterone for a few years and then we will consider giving you the least possible dose"
To his credit he laughed.

My Mother did not go into Menopause till well into her late fifties but she told me that for years afterwards she would experience hot flashes and the cramping you are experiencing. So yes I believe where Hormones are concerned anything is possible.

You are obviously having regular check-ups so I think nothing to worry about.
When you think about it we are Menopausal till the day we die so I think the female body is capable of many weird and wonderful things!

Anyway hope that all is well
Please keep us posted
Elizabeth

Dear Darlene
I agree with you completely as you will notice in my posting to Kathy.
Anyway, good luck with the endovaginal ultrasound and try not to worry.I had it done about two months ago and had two benign growths removed from my uterus.

All the Best

Are you sure your cramping isn't intestinal? I have IBS, and the cramping can feel very similar to ovarian cramping from the peri-menopausal days.
darlene bursch
JJ, I know my cramping isn't intestinal, because I have IBS too, and this is a different type of cramping, more like menstrual cramps. Even my gyno suggested that the pain may be caused by gas, but this pain is very low in the pelvic area, and the pain around the ovary is unmistakeable. Where and what type of pain do you experience Kathy? I love your user name too, and Elizabeth you are right, it reminds me as well of two friends in particular who give me that "Get Over It" look when I try to describe the indescribable symptoms that have accompanied my menopause! And thanks for your well wishes on my ultrasound. I hope to get in for it this week. I am really more than ready to get off this hormonal ride!

Thanks ladies for your input! I had a vaginal ultrasound last Thursday (the internal type). I will have to share that this one hurt. They seem to have changed the 'instrument' and now it is a long thin rod and I don't know what the tech did, but it hurt. I asked her where she was at and she was right up against my cervix (ouch). I have an appt with OB/GYN Wednesday so we'll see. I even lightly spotted afterwards. Yeah, I have health anxiety and anything that goes out of whack with me, I always take it to the next level! (:-( My OB/GYN asks me 'how are the bowels' and they are always O.K. I've also had those type of pains (left ovary, way down low) and I wonder if it could be the bowels. I know I have to have a colonoscopy (I'm overdue), but.....that's another story....I just visited her in February and everything was O.K. except this cramping....

Thanks so much for the replies gals..............

huh.gif This is the pits..I never knew that this late in the game I would experience such cramping! It is worrying me now cause I went through early onset menopause from 35-48 and had my last period then...I thought "smooth sailing from here on"....Two years ago I had experienced cramping after a double surgery hernia/gall bladder repair and removal...Was shorty sent for removal of mass and d.& c....Haven't felt the same since....It's almost lie they opened a can of worms...Todays dr. visit proved not helpful so this week I will make an app. with the gyno...I should know better than being a year late w/my yearly exam...I will try to post again after this phrase is behind me...See you on the other side and please let me know whats' happening with you girls...Check back later, pinkylee

Hi Ladies,
The only time I had cramping low like that was when I used Vag biest cream. I washed it out and the cramping disappeared.
LENEAT55
hello all. I'm new here and haven't had to come here to read for about 3 yrs. Thank Goodness!!!! I had a very bad voyage getting to the post menopausal part. I don't have cramping but I have that ovartian pain that used to come when I had periods while ovulating. Every 2 weeks. I call it my pretend period. Since I no longer bleed. I'm even a little emotional during this time and also have a discharge. Plus night sweats and an occasional hot flash. MY GP checked my estrogen and couldn't believe how low it was. He said it was below 0. I didn't know it could go into negative numbers laugh.gif Anyway, would like to know if anyone else is experencing this. Like some of you, I worry about ovarian cancer since my mother died from breast cancer at 35. I would think, tho, that the pain would be all the time.

Thanks for any help!

I have has cramping for3 month: Went to gyne ans she said I LOOKED FINE..pab smear came back with abnormal cells...since then I have had ultrasound, cst scan, biopsy and recently d n c . NO ONE knows why I am suffering. Will get d n c results in 2 weeks.

yes, I get the cramping too, I get it as a spasmy pain below the navel, right in the centre. It's def not intestinal and not my bladder. i just recently asked my doc and she said that the uterus muscle can cramp for no particular reason and indeed does so post menopause. She also suggested adhesions as an explanation for the pain.

I have not had a period for 11 months smile.gif but I have noticed the last few months I get some real mild cramping too. This month I got the anxiety and very slilght breast tenderness also. Have since gone away and no bleeding. I just had a mammogram and that was fine. The tech at the radiology dept said that women do complain about this for sometimes years afterward. Seems our bodies just don't shut off. But at least the bleeding has not returned. I am glad to be done with that.
