I'm almost 46 years old and think I'm in peri. My dr wont really take me seriously till my periods stop so I'm left to read lots of books and search sites for answers.
I've had what I consider to be hot flashes before -- hands quivering, heart pounding, neck flush, head numb - the experience lasted a couple of mins at most. This has only happened a handful of times over the past year. Because it was no more than that, I didn't really think too much about it. Till now...
Recently I've had bouts of what I term "heat waves" -- which last for 3-4-5-6 hours at a time. My torso feels like its on FIRE. Just my torso though - back and front. No sweat. No heart palpitations. Nothing else, just this incredible heat that's more like a fever than anything else. My middle seriously feels like its going to spontaneously combust! I've turned the air conditioner down to Arctic settings and even have a fan blowing down on my body at night. I even sleep on large ice packs too. (after I sleep on them for a while, they feel like they have come out of the microwave instead of the freezer!) My feet are numb with cold. My arms have goose pimples running up/down them. Torso, still hot.
I've always run cold my whole life -- and my husband was great at snuggling or putting his arm around me and heating me up. Now, though, he says he can just stand by me and feel the heat radiating off of my body.
I haven't got more than 2-3 hours of sleep in a row for over two weeks and I'm going nuts.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is it peri?
I recently had Dr check my thyroid when I noticed I was gaining weight (without eating more/and I exercise daily - so no reason) and he said it was ok. So I can rule thyroid out.
