Hi all,
I posted this earlier today in the "depression" thread, but wanted to make sure as many of you as could sees it.

I just happened across the neatest video of a lecture by a doctor in CA, Dr. Jeanne Leventhal. She is speaking to med students and this is just so informative and so good. Just go to the YouTube site and put "mood and menopause" in the little search box.

It is about 45 minutes long, so make sure you have time to watch. I divided it up into 2 viewings. Let me know what you think of it if you get the time to watch it.

hugs to all,

Thanks for the info mood-swinger. It really helped me understand why the hormones were not working for me and that I need to find another plan of attack. Now I need to figure out how to increase my seratonin since I haven't had much luck with the AD's. I really hate to try another one but I do need to find some relief so maybe I will. I wish that they had a seratonin shot that they could give you and make it all better laugh.gif There is an answer to this and we will find it!!! Hope you are doing okay.
God Bless,
Bev

Informative video. Thanks.

Wonderful and informative. I would have enjoyed having her for a professor. Thanks for sharing.

I dont understand all of what she is saying but I can get the gist of it. It is too bad that she was not around with her present knowledge to educate doctors starting about 50 years ago.

Absolutely amazing video, thanks a bunch for posting. One thing I would sure change, is the % of women that are highly sensitive to slight fluctuation in estrogen level. I like the fact that FSH can be lowish, while estogen can be rock bottom at the same time.
Love the information on progesterone, now I know why I hate it soo much, LOL.
Somewhat disagree that women can celebrate something that takes years of their lives to the point of disability, but overall, it is very good lecture.]
I think the irritable ovaries syndrome and "husteria" is also correct, seems the overstumation of the brain is quite real and causes all the crazy symptoms.

It seems that systemic progesterone is a big no for me, seconds everything I have read about HRT/BHRT, it is progesterone that is responsbile for quitting HRT.
Oh well, there is only this much we can do, either this, or it has to be balanced with high enough level of estrodiol.
cheers,
I.

Iradan, this is why I cannot take HRT either. Progesterone for me was poison! You are right, I would have to have such a high amount of estrogen to balance it out I guess and I am just not going to do that. So I understand what you are talking about. I agree w/ you about celebrating this mess. So far, celebrating is the last thing I care to do. Maybe later I will celebrate that it has not killed me! Glad you liked the video.

cheers to you as well,

Crazy in CA
Really interesting video! Celebrate???? Clearly this woman has not gone through it yet! happy.gif

I do like that she discouraged sending menopausal women directly to the shrink when the going gets tough and encourages support groups instead - (like here!)

Hopefully the young medical students will 'hear' her and not brush menopausal woman off as hysterical - or crazy!

GK, Thank you for posting this link. I checked out the foundation and it looks great. She seems to really care about women in midlife and the problems we are having w/ peri/meno as well as the way our doctors treat us. We need all the advocates we can use right now.

hugs,
