Since I am low in vitamin D. I've just started "upping" my dosage of Vitamin D3 from 1,000 a day to 3,000.

Unfortunately, I have been getting bouts of loose stools and can only trace it back to this supplement.
In reading the label, one of the ingredients is magnesium.
Just to check out my suspicion, it was the only supplement I took today. Sure enough, a few hours later, I was making a beeline to the bathroom.

I know I need to take the vitamin, but is there anything I can do to stop the side effects??? I can't believe this is happening! Everytime I take a step forward to making myself better, something like this happens!! mad.gif

Booky,
Why do you take vitamin D with magnesium, i take oil based capsules, and have no problem. I can't tolerate magnesium in any form, it gives me runs.
Try just D3 in oil based caps, and split it in few doses, not more than 1000 at a time.
HTH,
Best,
I.

Thanks Ira.

Frankly, I didn't know there was an oil based product. I'll check it out tomorrow at my healthfood store.

The least bit of magnesium in a supplement sends me running for the bathroom. Check the labels, there are many supplements that have magnesium added. I can remember, years ago, as a prep for surgery or colonoscopy they used magnesium citrate...yuck, but it did the trick (now they use much gentler stuff, thank goodness.)

How much total magnesium are you taking every day? I found 250 mg is enough for me to not have heart palpitations. Some people need 500 mg. Many people get the runs from too much magneisum. Try taking calcium with just Vitamin D in it, and a separate, smaller dose of magnesium.

Hope that helps!

What type of magnesium are you taking? If it's citrate, you will have loose stools.

Try glycinate or chelated magnesium. You won't find those in stores but you can get them online. The citrate is the most common that is sold at local stores.
