I never feel this way before Af so i doubt that it's that, I just feel plain crappy... Af should start today or this weekend, now before you all go saying i could be pregnant, dh had a vasectomy 1 1/2 year ago with sperm count 0 after testing... Can someone tell me what could be wrong with me i'm so tired of being like this i'm usually always feeling good and get good nights sleeps..

I think that thirst and passing lots of urine mean that you should be checked for possible diabetes.

I second that. Excessive thirst and peeing a lot are symptoms that you might be diabetic. also fatigue. Get a fasting blood glucose test done. Normal fasting blood glucose is under 100.

Anyone seen their glucose levels rise for no apparent reason? Less than a year ago mine was 88. I haven't gained weight (haven't lost any either, although I keep trying). Joined a gym last spring and work out at least 3-4 times a week. Periods are coming further and further apart--last one had quite a bit of flooding. Had a doctor's appt. last week--cholesterol is up, which I know can be caused by hormones, but glucose is now 102. I have no family history of diabetes.
Ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts? Cuz I'm confused on this one, and my doctor didn't say anything about it, other than it was in the range of pre-diabetes.
Thanks for any input--

Hi moteachr, you may want to cut all sugar out of your diet and go with 3 good meals and a snack in between each. I had the same thing happen to me this past February. I ended up in the hospital with a nasty stomach virus and vomited for 7 hours straight. My fasting blood sugar was 123. Thats high and he doctor told me that it was probably due to being sick like I was and to get it checked in a couple of weeks because it could also signal pre diabetes. Diabetes runs in my family and I have low blood sugar that causes me some pretty bothersome symptoms like fatigue, lack of apetite, nausea and brain forg and shakiness. I find that when I drink a few ounces of orange juice and follow with a protein I almost always feel normal. Peri is a time where even those with normal family history of diabetes can get some low blood sugar issues that can develope into other blood sugar issues if not dealt with swiftly. Good luck to you and you may want to get a glucose blood tester from the pharmacy and check your blood sugar levels consitantly for a week. Or just go have the glucose tolerance test. Debra

I am another that is in the pre-diabetic range. And I am genetically predisposed, so I really need to watch it. I have cut sugar WAY down - but haven't totally eliminated it. I have lost 15 pounds, and still want to drop another 15. I am walking briskly 4 or 5 times a week, and have cut out white bread, white pasta, white rice and most processed foods. I have cut my fat intake way way down too. Lots of veggies and fruits. It has been a very difficult adjustment, and I know it has to be a permanent change....but I do OCCASIONALLY eat stuff I like, just because I like it. Even full blown diabetics are permitted to indulge themselves now and then!

I've been a diabetic for going on 15 years. Get checked. Type 2 CAN be reversed in some people simply by lifestyle and weight changes. I pee all the time anyway because I have a spastic bladder but the thirst issue raises a red flag for me. You need a fasting A1C bloodwork done. It will tell you what your blood sugars have been running over the last three MONTHS.

Perfect advice, LadyBugs....As we go into meno or peri, we often have trouble with blood sugar & high cholesterol.
Hormonal imbalance causes lots of problems. ...and yes, by diet changes many can reverse pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Cutting out bread & sugar will do wonders for you.
Google syndrome X and Bioidentical hormones.Shebee

Sheebe - can you recommend a good, simple website for diabetes? You can PM me with it if you can't put it in this thread. Thanks! Just dx'ed

But hey! It's gonna force me to change and that's always a good thing.

Yahoo search Mary Vernon, M.D. in Kansas....I think that this should be ok to post. They are not selling anything.
Here is an interview with her.

OMG, DebraD, Floater, and Shebee--thank you so, so much for these wonderful ideas and just the validation that this does happen in our world of peri and age. I have had a pretty emotional couple of days wondering just what the heck is going on in my body yet again. And Shebee--that web site is FANTASTIC. I learned so much. Thank you for posting it. Thankfully my kitchen doesn't need a complete overhaul--but I do have to watch the sugar intake like all of you suggested. It seemed like once school was out for the summer (both college and where I teach) vacation meant movies, licorice, taffy, spice drops, and ice cream. I didn't pork out, but they were in the house on a regular basis none-the-less. And I like the idea of monitoring my own glucose level--I will certainly buy a tester.
Wow--never saw this one coming. Never.
Thank you all so much!

Shebee is right in that our hormones play a huge role in Type II diabetes. Just google Testosterone and diabetes and see what you come up with. Get one or several of your hormones outta whack and you jump into the risk of becoming a type II diabetic.
Carbs are bad bad bad for you at this stage of diminishing hormones. You would be surprised where you find carbs too, not just in pasta and bread! I was happy to find a low carb yogurt last week, never realized how many carbs a lite yogurt has until I saw these! Those carbs turn into sugar girls!

Everything we eat will be processed into sugar because that is the only fuel that our cells can use as fuel. I wouldn't recommend getting a meter just because unless you know what the numbers really mean you are going to scare yourself. Your blood sugar changes all during the day. Illness can affect also when and what you eat will affect it. I have taken a lot of classes on the subject as my DD is a type 1 diabetic and several other members of my extended family are type 2. What I have learned is you need to consult a doctor and a dietician that is versed in diabetes. Having said that eating a balanced diet that is low in processed foods and eating alot of fresh fruit and veggies is a good thing. Carbs are not necessarily a bad thing they are part of a balanced diet

I am T2 Dx at 45, before that, my fasting was in low 100s, in 2 years jumped into diabetic range. Now I see it gets harder and harder to maintain without medications.
However, when I was on BHRT, mainly progesterone, drove my blood sugar higher. It is estrogen that makes us insulin sensitive, and progesterone that is linked to IR and gestational diabetes.
Syndrome X can develop at any age, mostly to genetic metabolic make up, T2 is genetic for the most part, and some ppl simply can process carbohydrates, no matter how slim they are.

Boy--these nasty little hormones really make life tough, don't they?
This past weekend I hit the bookstore and read up on carbs and diabetes. I learned a ton--and am armed with questions for my doctor. I also signed up for a class on pre-diabetes and diet through one of the local hospitals.
*sigh* This peri stuff is work, huh?
