Full Version: Palpitations as heart slows down

I have had palpitations for a very long time, and I've had every test known to the Doctors and they all say I'm fine. Lately they just occur when I get up and move around and then sit down again. I get a couple flips as my heart rate comes back down to normal. Does anyone else get that? I hate to call my doctor again, she already thinks I'm a crazy person worrying about these things. Or if I walk across the office and stand to talk to someone, after about 2 minutes, I get a flip or 2 and then it goes back to normal. It's getting so that I'm afraid to move out of my chair.

I just started some adrenal supplements from my chiropractor who said that it could be that my blood pressure drops when I get up and then then my heart rate has to increase to keep me upright. So when it comes back down to normal, then the extra beats can slip in.
I just hope I'm not the only one with this particular symptom. I guess misery loves company.

Thanks,
Linda

You're not the only one, I've had that symptom and every other trigger I can think of for palpitations. It seems to change at random for me... for a month I had them every time I got up from a resting position, now I get them more when I rest after being up for awhile. Go figure... I think the randomness of the triggers for me is a reassurance that it's not a problem with the heart itself... as heart issues usually cause more predictable problems. If the doctors tell you your heart is healthy, it could be anxiety related...and adrenal supplements might make it worse (but it still won't hurt you, and at least you might have a better clue to the cause).

Well, I know that anxiety is a big problem for me. My husband has been out of work for 6 months now, so it's getting a little scary. I was hoping that the adrenal supplement would help. I had read that adrenal fatigue can cause palpitations. I know my heart is healthy, I've had monitors, stress tests, you name it. It's just every time it changes in frequency or the way it comes on, I right away start to obsess about it.
Isn't menopause just the most fun ever? My doctor thinks I'm crazy, but she's getting to that age herself, so we'll see whose laughing in a couple years.

My palps start first thing in the morning when I open my eyes. Then I get out of bed after a couple hours of sleep UGG and walk around. I have to get on the couch and sit. When I go to lay down the palps get worse. My heart rate is around 130 in the morning. I start to feel more calm in the evening. And then we start all over again the next day.........

I'd be very cautious taking adrenal supplements......why in the world would a chiropractor delve into an area (cardiology) that he is not trained in? If you're concerned, see a cardiologist. I have a similar issue, but after examination, my cardiologist told me to get out and walk - not sit in a chair and worry about it. As far as adrenal supplements, do they have any form of adrenaline, or ephinephrine in them? If so, that can cause palpitations too. Ask yourself why you need them ??? Just a thought!

My chiropractor is a functional medicine specialist. I have been to the cardiologist and he just said live with it, if it hasn't killed you yet, it won't. My chiropractor noticed that I have lots of thinning hair and fatigue problems, so he suggested that I try an adrenal supplement. He knows about my heart palps, but has never recommended anything for that. The supplement doesn't have any stimulant in it, it's a glandular product with vitamin C. And I was having the palpitations for months before I tried that. He thought it would help with the fatigue. I have started to exercise, but it's difficult when you feel like your heart will stop. I was only taking 1/3 of the recommended dosage, because I know that I am extremely sensitive to everything.

I appreciate all of your concern. I know that lots of women on this site have palp problems. I know that the cardio is probably right, and I just have to learn to live with it and not let it bother me.

I've been on the adrenal supplements for years (glandulars) and it's really helped. My palps come and go with no ryhme or reason.

Not to let it bother you is a very difficult thing because each irregular rhythm is a reminder of our own mortality. I've had them for 30 years now, and I never believed the Dr. was right! Ha.....live each day to the fullest!!
