Can anyone share wih me if this happens to you. I've read through old posts but can't find it mentioned. I have surges throughout the day now and at night that don't stop for hours at a time. Does this sound familiar. It used to be thhat it would happen quick. This has come on suddently and I'm wondering if it could be normal or a reaction to upping my thyroid medicine because the levels are off. When it happens I can't stop crying. What does it mean??? I'm very scared and confused, any help appreciated. I can't sleep at night because of it being so constant , even if I take xanax. It's wearing me down. Thanks

It sounds like adrenal surges.

...sometimes we have sudden surges of estrogen when we are going through menopause. Completely normal....completely annoying.
Try yahoo/google search of

Adrenal surges Menopause.

Too much thyroid medicine can also cause anxiety and surges. You might check with your doctor and have your thyroid checked again. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for a new thyroid level to kick in. I have taken thyroid meds for years, and it happened to me this winter. We upped it, and then I started having more anxiety, which spiked my BP. We dropped it down to the previous level, and now I'm doing much better.

I have surges all the time. The classic "claire weekes" type. They can come in response to a hot flash or a disturbing thought or anything at all. They are awful and hard to shake but if I stay "in the physical" and don't spin off in to some head trip of fear sometimes. sometimes I can handle them. The body does only have a limited capacity to produce adrenaline it's just that peri kicks up that capacity a bunch.

Sorry you are going through this. I sooooooo get it.

Here if you need me...

I guess my other worry is that this symptom came on so quick. I have been in a gradual peri menopause decline with hormones and such but, all of the sudden to have these surges out of the blue throughout the month seems odd. It's almost feels like I'm going through a withdrawal of some sort. Shouldn't these things happen slowly and not just start out of the blue. For example, get a few surges here and there and built to worse ones?? My went from zero to a hundred.

My dear Friend
Have kept up with your Posts so feel with you.Yes,intense surges can happen almost constantly especially to Ladies who are very sensitive to Meds.
I think the fact that you have upped the Thyroid medicine would cause a very high level of anxiety.I would talk this one over with your Doctor as Xanax may even be counter indicated with the Thyroid Med.
I am not a Doctor but have a feeling that this could be happening.

Please try to stay as calm as possible.
Call a good friend over for some Herbal infusion-sorry no Wine allowed-and make that appointment

Sorry you are dealing with this, it can be scary. I use to have them all the time. I could be taking a bath or just watching TV and Boom...intense 0-100 surge for no reason...with crying, anxiety, aggitation and crazy thinking. Yes, I got them at night too. Kind of like a restless leg feeling through your whole body that would last for hours. I had to get up and walk around, lay down, get up its exhausting. I still get them once in awhile but not as often.

I would talk to the dr about your thyroid med for peace of mind on the med but I'm guessing its adrenal surges. Try not to be scared when they happen and go with the flow as much as you can until it settles down. Tell yourself its your hormones having a party and going wacko for awhile nothing more.
Hang in there!

Oh these feelings are horrible!!! I get them all the time. I feel out of control. I get these every 3 weeks and I'm already in post. Yhey usually last 5-6 days then slowly disapears. This time they came back in a week and still going on ( 6 ) days now. I've had my cortisol level checked twice through bloos work. The first time I was off balance. Then got checked 3 months later and was on the lower norm. Getting checked again in august. My thyroid was very low a couple of years ago but now it's in range- as they say. I'm not sure if this is due to low estogen or just plain wacked. My doctor feels like checking hormone is a waste of time since they fluctuate through out the day. And I haven't had a period in 6 years with no problem till now.
So I hope we can get the answers we need to feel better...Hang in there.
