First of all I am sorry you feel so bad. I have tmj and it is not fun. It comes and goes, mostly comes though. There are lots of old threads around here about it, but you may have to search a bit to find them.

I have sore jaw, ears, temples and shoulders and sometimes travels down the arm. I went to a TMJ specialist and was going to have lots of work done to try to fix it, but it was very expensive, (6500.00) I do not have dental insurance, so I live on soft foods, warm compresses, etc. Anyway if you google tmj you will find lots of sites that give you info. I can e-mail them to you if you would like I have lots bookmarked.

I hope you feel better.

I too get the very same symptoms. I had actually remarked to my mum yesterday that I feel like someone hit me on the jaw. Bruised feeling...very odd and you sit and wonder...how did I do that? I also get the same bruised sensations along the nape of my neck and sometimes the top of my head. It comes and goes....in spurts.

Thankyou enough and Medium at large, for replying so kind of you.

Enough,
I went thru most posts couldn,t find much relating to sore tender points, thought tmj was mainly jaw clicking, popping out and general pain radiating into neck etc (of which i,ve had)(of course!!!) So that worried me that not much saying about tender spots. I will pm you if ok if you could send posts etc, would be very grateful.

Medium at large,
Have had tender spots in nape and funny enough(tho isn,t really funny) have had a sore spot right on the top of my scalp feels like a pimple their but isn,t,thats coincided with jaw tenderness.
Are your tender spots sort of as big as your finger nail don,t hurt untill you happen to touch the area??
I,ve had tender gums in the past and sensitive teeth, crikey my list of ailments could stretch over the ocean.....

Thankyou again ladies for your support much appreciated K x

The jaw pain is another one of my own "mystery" symptoms that I've developed with peri! It will come on and I'll immediately think I have a tooth problem. I've been to my dentist but have no tooth problems whatsoever.

My husband, a Doctor of Chiropractic, gets referrals from dentists who have patients suffering from TMJ. My husbands helps them tremendously and he has helped me with my pains, also. They are muscular pains and need specific massage on certain "trigger point" areas. Chiropractic adjustments to my neck and jaw also help. You may need to have your jaw adjusted by a competent chiropractor who knows how to do that. It is painless and very helpful. It shouldn't cost more than about $60-120 if you find an honest Dr. like my husband!
The nerves from the neck lead all around the head, jaw, etc....amazing how it's all related and sore spots can appear all over the place!
Hang in there! wink.gif

Right on the top of your head yes........and yes it could be likened to having a blind boil coming on. It is so very odd isn't it? Somedays it hurts to brush my hair because of it!

Oh Dizzy D,
Where is your husbands office? I tried a chiropractor who wants me to come in for 12 weeks 3 times a week. At $20 a visit, it cannot happen. I want to see him!!!!!!
