I have heard several ladies mention that they feel like they are going through peri all over again but they are definately Post menopausel. If you are one of these ladies here ,, I would like you to post your experiences and if in fact you have been loosing weight ? I know that fat cells can convert androgens into estrogen that is why ladies who carry extra weight around have higher estrogen levels post-menopausal then the skinny girls and believe that weight loss post menopausel stops or lowers the fat cells producing enzymes (armoatases) conversion of androgen in fat cells to estrogen causing a drop in estrogen again causing the peri symptoms to "re-appear" .. any comments welcome .. thanks My suggestion is to loose weight slower .. weening off that excess estrogen still being produced ..

Hi,

Absolutely! I had much worse menopausal symptoms when I lost 80+ pounds. I had never had a hot flash or night sweat until I lost the weight. I think it was for the exact reason you mentioned--reducing my estrogen levels very quickly. I eventually adjusted but I still don't know if it extended the time it took. I would go very slowly in any weight reduction plan at this time in our lives.

I have always been extremely slim naturally, barely 112 lbs and I would say that my symptoms are very severe. I guess it seems to confirm the theory that fat cells are oestrogen store depots. When my ovaries packed in I was left with nothing in the bank.

So much for being fit, athletic and slim. It didn't do me much good did it? rolleyes.gif

Well, I recently lost 35+ pounds and now weigh around 120 lbs. My peri symptoms, or at least symptoms that I attributed to peri are much BETTER since dropping the pounds. I feel SO much better since losing the weight. I am 49 BTW, not post.

I have always been thin also. Very on the go person. I weigh 115 and at my most I was 130 which was last year when all this craziness started. I've been post for 6 years now and never experienced what I'm going through now. Alot of anxiety and depression and can't fall asleep on my own. I lost weight this past year because I cannot eat but maybe a little bit at evening. I might get in a good week when I could eat more. I don't know if this is hormonal or not but I'm tired of it all. I probably sound like a broken record but all you ladies are wonderful. I wish the best for all of us.....

I am not thin but have almost no hot flashes but anxiety like no tomorrow, and I still cycle monthly at 52, gotta think it is estrone converted from androgens via fat cells aromatise.
I have read hefty women have less severe hot flashes than think, same for bone density.
But overall, I feel as nasty as any other women, there are more symtoms than hot flashes, i think.

This post is for women who have already stopped menstruating (no period for more than 12 months) and then after several years find their symptoms have returned. not for women still having periods .. please see initial post. thanks

Yep, it happened to me. At four years post (2007) I lost 35 pounds in two months. It was all brought on by problems with a med and a hiatal hernia. I barely ate anything. That's the only time I really had meno symptoms: anxiety, muscle twitches, hot and cold flashes, back pain, nausea, palps. It took me about a year to really feel better - I gained back much of the weight - but I still don't feel like I did before the weight loss and it's been almost two years.

I truly believe the weight loss threw everything off balance. The doctor said I didn't lose any muscle - only fat. There you go...the estrogen link.

I'll always regret that period in my life - I feel like I did it to myself. I should have forced myself to eat. I sometimes wonder how different these last years would have been without that episode in 2007.

I, too, believe that slow weight loss is the way to go at this time in our lives.
