Ms. Anxiety
Today I had an endoscopy and the Dr. performed an esophageal biopsy, needless to say I am stressing. I am wondering how many of these biopsies come back positive for Barretts or anything else. If anyone has had this experience, I'd like to know. I don't think I have had the sensation of reflux more than a few weeks, but from what I read you could have it and not know.

I have a lot of gerd over the last year. I have not had that procedure done but my sister has. They did mention Barretts syndrome to her but she is fine. She does take Prilosec.

I also had an endoscopy today. Have had severe acid reflux for several years, nausea and a CONSTANT nagging in my stomach. I have pain just below the sternum and tender to touch. I tested positive for the H Pylori bacteria and was on high doses of antibiotics for 2 weeks. I thought for sure I had an ulcer, a hiatal hernia or something! NOTHING!!

Dr. took a sample for biopsy also.

What did your Dr. say after the scope?

Calm down, Ms. Anxiety, I had it twice done, it take years (10+) for the esophagus to turn Barretts, and mostly common in men than in women.
I am sure your acid reflux is hormonal, and your esophagus is just a little irritated.
Good luck.

I was diagnosed with GERD 15 years ago. I take one Prilosec (script ordered, not the over the counter crap) and and fine but you must take it faithfully every day!

He said that I have a hiatal hernia and that the espho. looked a bit red or irritated at the end so he was going to biopsy it as well as do the biopsy for H. pylori. I did have reflux years ago when I was pregnant, but until the last month I had not noticed anything.

How long ago did you test positive for H pylori?

I tested positive for H Pylori just a few weeks ago. Was on high doses of antibiotics for 2 weeks, along with prescription Prilosec. Finished those up 2 days ago. Had the endoscopy and colonoscopy today. I was absolutely positive I was gonna show either an ulcer or a hiatal hernia, but NO. Only irritation of the esophagus. I have had constant nausea (and I do mean CONSTANT) for at least 2 years, along with pain and horrible acid reflux for at least 4 or 5 years.

I just don't get it!! I have been through test after test after test after test and I am still no closer to knowing why I feel so crappy all the time! Well, I am severely anemic! Probably because food has no appeal to me, but the weight sure keeps coming on!

I hope you find answers soon. It's definitely no fun!!
