Toby (our nine year old long haired dachshund) is going in for surgery this morning. He is having his teeth done but they will be doing MULTIPLE extractions. We are hoping he will keep his canines at least! He has absessed teeth in back that need to come out and loose ones in front. Well, as you can tell this is my BABY and I'm a nervous wreck! To all of those who are not pet lovers I'm sure you think I'm nuts but this little dog is my reason most days for getting out of bed! He has become my menobuster and like any normal mama I am worried sick! Please say a prayer for him. HE KNOWS something is going on....he just doesn't know what! It's the anesthesia and his age I am worried about. Thank you all!

Being a dog lover, I totally understand how you are feeling!
I will certainly send up prayers for Toby, and for you...that you will remain calm and positive through this experience. I am sure Toby will be fine!

My prayers are with you and Toby today. I have an 11 year old Pomeranian who is the sweetness in my life. She has lost the majority of her teeth over the last few years. Hang in there, I'm sure he'll be fine. It was actually a blessing for my Phoebe when they pulled her teeth. She got so much of her spunk and energy back. They can't tell us when they have pain in their teeth. Bless you and your vet - I'll keep you in my thoughts today.

Thanks all. No word from the vet yet. Toby's teeth were on a downhill slide when we got him and they think he was only fed soft food so his back ones I'm sure will be gone and the little ones in front. I should hear something around 1pm or so. I'll let you know. Thanks again for going through this with me. It sure helps lighten the load.

Good thoughts and little doggy prayer for your baby. We had to have this done with our doggy a few years back when he was 12 years old, he was old then and I know just worry's you so much he is 15 now. Anyway hope that all went, I am sure he will be totally babied deluxe when you get him home.

Being an animal lover I couldn't help but feel your pain. Here's more hugs and prayers for you and Toby! ((((((((BIG HUGS))))))))

He's home! We went and got him at 6 last night. Oh my gosh was he doped to the flippin gills! Morphine high on dogs LOL! So, we brought him home, he is resting comfortably and is drinking water (thank God, because today is gonna be a HOT one and I was worried he wouldn't want to drink. I know I didn't after extractions!) but he is drinking. No eating yet but they said not to worry about that. He gladly ate a small piece of cheese to get his pain pill down last night though . Total of 21 teeth gone! He still has four of his canines so his face doesn't look any different....yet. He has the "noble" face of a dachshund when you think male dachshund. Don't know if that will change. Don't really care! All I know is my baby is home, ALIVE and in pain, but I know the pain will pass and he will feel better soon. Thanks to all of you who kept us in your prayers! You are priceless!

He's doing better than expected in his recovery! There's a bit of bounce in his step now (even though he is still on pain meds) and he's following me all over the house again. It's so nice to know his pain will soon be gone for good! Thanks all for such wonderful support!
