Which ert and dose have you ladies found to have helped in hair issues I've been on femring 0.1mg for years and I have been shedding a lot of hair in the past few months. I was wondering if I should switch to a oral form of estrogen. I have thought about trying premarin or estrace again.
Just me, but I would steer clear of the synthetics (definitely don't take premarin). I've been on the Vivelle Dot .25 patch (bioidentical estradiol) and have done well with it. A patch, unlike a pill, doesn't have to be processed by the liver.
Did you have a stressful event about 2-3 months ago? or surgery with anaesthetic? These can trigger hair shedding to happen a few months later. But too much or too little hormones could also do it. Low iron (serum ferritin) is also supposed to be a cause. It could be that the femring .1 (which is synthetic estradiol) is becoming too much for your system? I went through it about 6 years ago (from stress, a death, surgery, and switching around BCP's) -- it was pretty scary at the time. I ended up going off the Pill completely and about a year later starting the Vivelle Dot patch. In between also was trying to eat healthier, took Biotin (supposed to be good for hair), used Nioxin shampoo/conditioner for about a year, etc. Eventually it reversed and my hair is pretty thick now. but not fun at the time. I didn't find doctors to be very helpful, so did a lot of researching on my own. Try to reduce stress, eat healthy food with protein, and maybe ask your doctor about switching to a non-synthetic estradiol such as the Vivelle Dot patch.

I have been on some form of estrogen replacement since 2002. And over the years have tried estrace, estratest hs, vivelle, estragel, premarin and femring. Have been on femring since 2004. I always go back to femring because of the convenience . My TSH was done in October and was normal. I had my iron checked about 2 months ago during a derm appt and found my ferritin level was on the low side of normal, I have been on an prescription iron called repliva for 6 weeks and also biotin. I really think it's hormonal though and wonder if I should try some other ert or add some estrogel to supplement the femring.
You mentioned being on vivelle. Everytime I have tried vivelle I start shedding hair and hated dealing with the adhesive. Estrace and estratest hs seemed to to be more hair friendly to me. I have had major stress or surgery. Had vaginal hysterectomy 24 years ago, but kept ovaries. They quit working in 2002.
If anyone has had any hairloss success stories, please chime in.

I wish I could help you, but I have the same problem. Now I'm not bald, but I do have more receding at the temples and just a feeling of less hair when I run my fingers through it. I take 5mg of Biotin a day now for about 2 months and it's still the same. My ferritin came back 31 and I read that it should be 70 something like that, so I take 50mg of elemental iron a day, and my hair is still the same. And I also upped my estradiol from .50mg a day to 1.50mg a day for a few months, and my hair is still the same. I also take low dose of Armour, and my hair is still the same. So I give up.
If you find out what works, please let us know. But just know there are so many of us here with this problem and only a few have said the extra estradiol had thickened their hair, but not for me. I'm stopping estradiol for awhile and going on progesterone only to see if it helps my thyroid which maybe will row more hair and keep me feeling warmer and less tired.
Good luck.
