Does anyone else get this every now and then, feels like a heatbeat or baby kicking weird!

Do I need to see doctor?
Happymom07
I used to get the heartbeat in my tummy all the time. I also would get terrible runs of skipped beats at times. I went to a cardiologist who found nothing abnormal with my heart. He did record my skips but had no answers as to why I was getting them. He seemed to think I just had a very sensitive system and felt that stomach and intestinal issues would bring them on. He gave me a prescription for Digoxin which I refused to take. I then went on BHRT with the Vivelle Dot and the skips and heartbeat in my tummy disappeared... so I believe my problems were definitely hormonal.

Hope that helps some,

Is it mainly when you are lying down that you notice it? I get it sometimes and it is the aorta pumping that you can feel. The aorta is the main artery from your heart and it can sometimes be quite noticible.
It wouldn't hurt to get it checked out if it is really bothering you because occasionally it can mean a weakness in the aorta but that is very rare.

It certainly is a good idea to get things checked out by a doctor if you are upset by it. I would feel it sitting, standing, and laying down. When I lay on my back I could press on my tummy and feel the pulsing... the cardiologist felt it too. My theory is that the lack of estrogen was causing spasms in my arteries that would constrict my aorta causing me to get the pulsing and the skipped beats. I could be wrong, but after suffering from the skips and tummy heartbeat for months and months, the addition of estrogen with the patch put a stop to it within 3 weeks (I am praying it doesn't return!!).

Thanks no it's not really upsetting me and don't have it very often just feels weird when I do smile.gif

It could be gerd, esophogeal spasm, look it up and see what that is.

how often does this happen? I would get it checked out, it could be nothing but it could be a weakness in your aorta.
do you have palps, too?

I believe I've always had that, but it became really noticeable when I started with peri because of my anxiety and sometimes racing heart.

I was weaning myself off lorazipam (which was an hellacious experience, even after just 21 days on it-that's another story) and I was at my Drs. for another reason. He felt the pulse in my stomach and said we have that checked out with an ultrasound. I asked him why. He would only say that perhaps my aorta was a little different.

Of course in my panicky peri mode, I went home and looked up pulse in abdomen and just about keeled over when I found out what it could be (aortic aneurysm). I wasn't scheduled for the ultrasound until 14 days from then. I was just going through horrible withdrawal (read panic x 100 from what it was before the pills) from the lorazipam.

I honestly don't know how I made it through those 2 weeks. The woman at the imaging clinic asked me what I was there for and I told her for a pulse in my abdomen. I told her I hadn't slept in 2 weeks, and she took pity on me and told me right there and then, that my aorta was totally normal.

This happens to a lot of people when they're slim. You can actually feel the heartbeat in your abdomen. That's likely all you're feeling. I don't know if I can ever forgive my Dr. for having me go through 2 weeks of torture like that.

I think there's actually a way they can just listen to it with their stethoscope and decide whether it needs further investigation. You might want to ask your Dr.

Sorry about the long spiel. As a fellow peri person, I'm sure you understand that talking about our experiences helps smile.gif

FYI - I have that alot, esp w/the onset of peri...

I asked my dr about it a few years ago, and she said it is quite normal as we age bcz we lose some of the stomach/core muscle that we once had in our belly areas, when we were younger and/or more fit, (ie stronger core); we didn't notice cause the stomach muscles were stonger/tighter.... (kind of made since to me... esp w/my flabby flab belly... ohmy.gif ) She also told me that it is more common when you are lying down, or sitting.... She also mentioned that it was more common w/women that were "anxious", and that they didn't know if that's what made the anxiety (ie the women noticing the hearbeat or the rise in anxiety making it worse)...

So I personally would not worry about it, I know that I don't (anymore) that is...

Also remember one thing, we are all different individuals, and though I am sure you are fine, it may be something you want to bring up to your doctor on your next visit. But again, what my doctor had told me then made sooo much sense though.... And yes, I know it can be scary. When I notice, I tell myself, okay that's one thing that you know is okay... But like I said, it is always good to keep your doctor informed...

Blessings on ya...

I had this too for awhile. I don't know who was scared the most, me or hubby who thought I might be pregnant. biggrin.gif

Our hospital has a Health and Wellness unit that offers health screenings so I went to them for vascular screening. I got abdominal aneurysm, carotid artery screenings and the leg one, whatever it's called, all for $60, no questions asked, no roll-eyes from the dr. Peace of Mind, priceless. smile.gif

Yes I get this alot!!!!
I ask my PCP about one time and she said it was gas!
I have no idea why I feel this but it is weird, not painful, so I dont worry about it.

I get the heartbeat in the tummy thing too. I'm 66, so am post meno. Last February, I had a treadmill stress test which was normal except for mild mitral valve prolapse (which I've had since I had scarlet fever as a teen). However, in April I began noticing that my upper stomach was bloated about 45 minutes after my evening meal, and I was having odd, skipped heartbeats. My local doctor had me wear a Holter monitor for 48 hours. During that time I had 197,000 heartbeats (normal range), but 17,000 premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). And I may have had these for awhile, since they only show up when I'm resting or sitting. When I exercise and my pulse gets into the 80's, the PVCs go away.
My local doc (internal medicine) suggested I take a beta blocker (metoprolol) if the skipped beats and pounding heart (palps) were uncomfortable. I'm hesitant to do that, since I tried a beta blocker years ago when I had migraines. The beta blocker made me tired and dizzy. Now I have fatigue and mild vestibular dizziness often, even without taking the beta blocker. Also, I now have acid reflux (take Nexium) and beta blockers are known for aggravating acid reflux or GERD. I really don't need that either. It's taken me a long time to get the GERD under control by watching what I eat.

I decided to see a cardiologist who specializes in heart arrhythmia, at a clinic about an hour's drive from my home. Will see him in two weeks and will take along my results from the monitor I wore. I know that I have a LOT of skipped beats each day, so am unsure what he will do. I do know I'll probably have to have more tests. I do have several friends with heart arrhythmias similar to mine and they just live with them. Two of them had to stop the beta blockers because they also have acid reflux.

I'm feeling kind of scared right now. Since I also have serious, life-threatening allergies to most antibiotics (many close my throat), I will probably never be a candidate for ablation, a pacemaker, or other surgeries. I also have irritable bowel problems, thanks to a nasty bacterial food poisoning I picked up a few years ago eating restaurant chicken. So, there's a lot to deal with here. Just hoping maybe someone here has a similar problem with ventricular arrhythmia, that might be able to ease my mind a bit.

Anyone?

Hi Madge. Yes, I've had PVCs since I was 15. They come and go depending on stress, diet, electrolytes and now, Oh Joy, hormones. Just what I needed. Mine are benign (I hate that word, they are not benign to me, they make me crazy) but like you, the one time I did try the Inderal, I kept trying to pass out from low blood pressure so I deal with them.

Potassium, magnesium and dehydration are something I keep a close eye on because even a little deviation from normal range can start them up. I just had a big scare this week and once again was made to feel like an overreactive hypochondriac in ER. I was feeling them every minute. Nothing showed up on the EKG or the 7 hours of monitoring and even though my potassium was low and I was dehydrated, they just shooed me out the door and told me I'm too sensitive to my heartbeat. However.... I have had all the cardiac tests over the years so I would suggest you let them check you out completely. Then you can at least try to stop worrying.

Here is a website that I think has probably been linked here before. You'll find my recent drama there. If you haven't been to that board, hopefully it will give you some comfort until you can get to the cardio. http://palps.chemicalforums.com/cgi-bin/Ya...board=general/0. Wishing you a good result. S
