I was wondering if someone who has had their tubes tied will go into menopause earlier? I had my tubes tied 7 1/2 years ago and I may be in perimenopause. Has anyone experienced this?

I dont believe so,, I had an eptopic pregnancy and had to have one of my tubes removed 20 years ago. After my second son was born I had my remaining tube tied, that was about 14 years ago. I am now almost 52 and the menopause is making me nuts,, I hope it will be done soon. Is your mother still living ? does she know when she went through it ?

Every woman is different but YES it ABSOLUTELY can.It decreases blood flow to the ovaries, I had one 10 years ago, I am almost 32 and have been having peri symptoms for about 2-3 years they have gotten almost unbearable in the last year.I posted a post about this with alot of informative links.
Have you had any labs drawn ?

Didgens, yes my mother is still alive. She had an hysterectomy years ago and I am not sure why. I will have to ask her.
T nikki, I am sorry you are having so many problems at such a young age. I hope that you can feel better. I have not had any labs drawn. This is the first month I have had any problems at all since I had my tubes tied. This came out of the blue. In fact, I just talked with my doctor's nurse a few minutes ago and he wants me to come in to him tomorrow for an exam. Maybe they will be able to tell what is going on.

I would say yes in my case ,but then again I really don't know. My mom and sisters all went thru peri around 40s. My twin who has not had a Tubal is not going thru anything like I am.

This really makes me think I should have never gotten my tubes tied. If it didn't cost so much, I would consider a reversal.

Sorry to hear you're having problems and now some regrets regarding the tubal. But, when they were tied/cauterized the main arterial blood flow from the uterus to the ovaries was severed. Read an article somewhere (sorry can't cite it here but try googling) where many women go into peri and or meno (on average 5 years sooner). So, actually you're pretty much on target for the average age of meno. Hardly consoling info giving that you're feeling yucky. Don't beat up on yourself for a past decision. Could just be the common nasty peri/meno symptoms that many of us get hit with during this time of life. Hang in there. Kind regards, JZZ

I had my tubes tied 5 yrs ago, when I was 45. I have no regrets & would have done it sooner if my doc had given me the ok. I started peri symptoms 3 years later & am still having them. who knows if the tubaligation had much to do w/it. My mom started peri at about the same age, 47. Don't have regrets over your decision. Or rather, don't feel guilty. We are all going to go through this misery no matter what. Feel better....binsky

Thanks t nikki for all the links. I will definitly read each of them.
Binsky, I am glad you are satisfied with your decision to have a tubal. I don't know when any of my family members started peri except for my aunt on my mother's side. She has recently been going through menopause and she is in her 50's. I don't know when it all started though. I will have to ask her. But if tubal ligation causes a person to go through menopause sooner, maybe it doesn't really matter when other family members went through it? This is so depressing!

Hey, don't fret about it. I had a tubal when I was 24. Am now 36 and going through peri. I believe it may have caused the peri to hit a little early but I don't think it has caused any other problems and has sure been nice the last 12 years not to worry about birth control. You can't change the past you just have to deal with the present.

I had my tubes tied at age 35. I am now 57 and only started the peri mess at about age 53. Only quit having periods about 18 months ago. Then had one six months ago because I just spontaneously ovulated. So, I don't think it had anything to do with my meno experience. It sure was nice not to have to worry about birth control all those years.
I do think I had more problems with bad cramps at period time (once I even threw up from the pain, and I never throw up), especially in my late 30s and early 40s. My doctor said she has seen more women with this problem who have had their tubes tied. But this also eventually lessened a lot.
