Just found out I have IBS and can't find anything to eat that doesn't cause serious pain, cramps and bloating... doctor prescribed water pills but they're not working and I miss eating my veggies ans whole grains so badly! Endurance athlete too so its been hard to keep up my energy without and nutrients - help!

I HAVE IBS AND RECENTLY (ONE WEEK AGO), I STARTED TO EAT A GLUTEN FREE DIET. I'VE REALLLY NOTICED A DIFFERENCE WITH MY IBS, HEADACHES AND SOME ITCHING/RASH STUFF I HAD GOING ON. MY REFLUX IS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE. I DON'T KNOW IF ITS A COINCIDENCE/CYCLIC OR WHATEVER, BUT I'M GOING TO TRY IT FOR A WHILE AND SEE IF I KEEP FEELING BETTER. I'VE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH IBS ARE MISDIAGNOSED AND REALLY HAVE A GLUTEN ALLERGY (CELIAC) OR GLUTEN INTOLERANCE.

Protein drinks....LOL! of course...

This diet helps and allows your body to heal. ....and taking Garden of Life Primal Defense. (I tried many other probiotics, but this one is different. ....There was a post on soil bacteria, Homeostatic Soil Organisms, about this product on this site hat was interesting .)
I think that the soil bacteria kills out MAP????

If you have IBS or crohn's symptoms research MAP bacteria. There is a relationship...
(Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) ) Please research this.

If you can find the cause, you can find the cure.

When mineis at it's worst, I try aloe gel water, not juice, the water has no flavor. It seems to heal, also chamomile tea, but, personally, it seems like it's mostly time to let it run it's course. I know you probably dont' want to hear that and there is no rhyme or reason for me as to when it starts and ends, days, weeks without and then boom, it's here, and lasts fjor days, weeks, etc. It is very unpleasant. The doctors say to stay away from too much fruit and veggies and stick with the white flour things, but we all know how we hate doing that too.

Sorry I am not more helpful, read old threads abouthis and you may find some answers,. Warm compresses help a bit and blelieve it or not, a xanax or two relaxes my stomach, I dont' do that often, but whenever I use it, it does help me. Stress is bad for ibs, so they say to relax, but that is easier than done.

Good luck.

I read a doctor once said that IBS is due to our digestiive system not able to digest our foods well. Once you find the foods that cause your problem and eliminate them then you eliminate the IBS. For me, those foods are gluten and dairy. The wheat will almost always cause diarrhea while the dairy is a little tricky. I can have most any cheese or ice cream in small quantities however if I go to Wendy's and have a frosty, then I'll bloat up and get really gassy and be miserable for a day or too. Same with milk, or at least skim milk and milk shakes. Cottage cheese is ok, yogurt isn't.
