After I eat a meal a heavy tiredness hits and I just want to go to sleep. Anyone know what causes this? It also feels like my stomach inflates X5 and I feel awful...bloated, aches, and just plain FAT.

HI, I think I may have answered you before on other things...maybe we have similar symptoms! I have had trouble with food on and off as well....even extremely healthy foods and diet seemd to get the same results....yes, I have had and and be bloated and sleepy after eating....if it is gas like you might try Beano (I haven't tried it becasue I am not inthe US and it is not available, but I have seen many others say it is good).

You might try to pinpoint the food that may be causing the bloating and sleepiness...simple carbs may also cause the sleepiness as well as bloating ....this is really a tough one to nail down....try eating smaller meals, more frequently, heavy on the vegies, fish and chicken, low on carbs and high suggery foods and fruits (like watermellon and other mellons), go for nuts and olives...well, you probably know all the "should eats"....it is hard to maintain this, though isn't it! For me I went though a p@hase where COFFEE would make me feel incredibly tired and sleepy after a short while....this is only a 1/2 cup....all I ever have in one day dry.gif

Slowbear,
Thanks and no I don't know all the"should eats" I'm trying to learn all that now (at 52 no less). I have never had stomach or weight problems (unless I was pregnant) until about 5 years ago when all this meno started. I didn't have to pay attention to what I ate so I'm having a problem with that. Now I'm 40 lbs overweight, have high cholesterol, acne and just plain blah!

Thanks for the suggestions and would appreciate any other ones.

Depending on what you ate, if you feel like this after a carbohydrate rich meal, I would suggest strongly to check your blood sugar, after meal tiredness and sleepiness, is one sure sign of high blood sugar.
Bloating is another symptom.
Try to write down what you ate and what are your symptoms, and see if you feel same way after light meal of protein and vegetable.

Yes, Iradan, has a good point! Blood sugar, and while you are at it get the thyroid checked as well....low thyroid can also get the weight on but quick and make you feel tired and lethargic....get some blood work done and make sure for the thyroid you get FT4, FT3 as well as TSH (doc may say TSH is enough, but you really should have all for the best picture of the thyroid to start.....)

and in the meantime check out sites that recommend what to eat for Diabetes...not that you have this...but I have found the diet for a diabetic person is fairly healthy for us all and can help the weight issue as well.... For me now I am trying to see if I can find the ingredients to do more Mediterranean diet....love olives and fishes and vegies ...mmmm wink.gif ....`Please let us know how it goes smile.gif

I feel like this when I eat deep-fried food. A meal of fried shrimp or chicken will keep me down for a couple of days. I can barely drag myself off the couch. You'd think I'd learn not to eat stuff like that, but I like the taste so I still do it. Shame on me.

Hi Surreal,

These sound like symtoms of either celiac's disease, or a wheat intolerance. I would either get tested, or go gluten free. I was having all those same symtoms last summer, and I have celiac's. My stomach got HUGE after I ate, I would look 8 months pregnant. I had horrific joint pain/aches and just felt awful too. If you do decide to go gluten free, you have to stay away from ALL gluten. Even the most minut amounts will cause the same symtoms. I eat very healthy, and I was almost 100% gluten free, but even the smallest amounts I would have the same reaction. It's very well worth at least looking into.

~Hugs
