Anyone have problems during Perimenopause with really bad eye strain? I have it so bad, it actually hurts to look at anything, especially anything thats moving. I work on computers all day at my job so probably not helping. I see 20/20 with contacts and glasses so my vision is fine, but the muscles behind my eyes actually ache by the end of the day. I practically live on Tylenol which is probably not a good thing!

The front of my head near my eyes feel woozy at times, like there is water rushing behind them. But whats really scary is since I already suffer from dizziness problems , when I go shopping in really busy supermarkets or like big stores like Target or Walmart, or I try to walk and shop, or they have that terrible fluorescent lighting, I get really dizzy and my eyes hurt even more, and I have to get out of there fast! Just wondering if anyone else suffers from this problem.
Thanks for your support!!!! blink.gif

Yes I sure did! I used to take my glasses off in those big stores, thinking it might help with that horrid feeling. Eventually it lead to panic attacks in the stores, so I couldn't even enter a big store for several months.

Since I am on hormones and in meno the feeling comes much much less often, and if it does it is way less intense. I can now breath slowly and deeply and get back my equilibrium....but there was a time when nothing would work except fleeing!!

Not to say that I'm so glad you had this too, but glad someone else experienced this, thanks so much for your reply, now I don't feel so alone. I tell people about this problem and they look at me like I'm from Mars!! I'm glad to hear you're doing better and having this problem less often. Then there is hope for me! I'm still considering going to an eye doctor because I have really bad eye strain, and I think this is due to heavy pc use at work, along with dizziness problems which are probably making the eyes work harder to try to stay balanced. smile.gif

Are you using a flat screen or CRT monitor? CRTs are much harder on the eyes. Do you know how to change the refresh rate on your monitor - it needs to be on the highest setting. That can make a HUGH difference.

Also, florescent lighting really does bother some people more than others. I have to leave some stores because of it. You can google it and read about the negative effects it has on people. I've also changed my office lighting so no florescent shines directly on me. And I use a architect's light on my desk for my direct lighting.

These changes have helped my eyes quite a bit.

Dear'lopeonope'
This one I can well relate to.I was practically galloping out of shops and Malls.I felt hot, claustrophobic and dizzy.Yes it did feel as if my eyes were blurring.
After every available Test it was put down to the Anxiety from which I do suffer. The Psychiatrist told me to use a low dose of Xanax as and when needed. It really did help.

Am not suggesting you go on Meds.but maybe a talk with your Doctor or a Therapist maybe useful. Please do not forget to have your Thyroid checked as have been reading how this little Gland can go haywire at Menopause and add to symptoms.

So you are not alone

Warm Wishes

I went through a phase of this too. Couldn't stand being in the department stores, or any, with those florescent lights. Felt like it was a huge assault on my eyes and put me into sensory overload and some type of panic attack. Felt like too much light, other visual stimuli, sounds coming at me just walking into any store. But, like alot of this peri meno stuff it passed in a few months. I just avoided stores for awhile during that time. Oh, and I remember feeling claustrophobic too while in stores....even the huge ones. hmpfh That went away too. Hope you feel better soon, JZZ

I am so glad that you posted this!!!! I have been worrying about this for months thinking something was really wrong with my eyes. I have been scared to go to eye doctor because I thought I was losing my eyesight or something. I hate it that others are suffering with this but am glad to know that I am not by myself. Wow I cannot say that enough!!!

Thank you so much.
