Hi Everyone and thank you for reading my question. I'm new here and really scared about what’s going on.
I have night sweats most of the night so I don't sleep. I'm very anxious about everything.
I had my thyroid removed 10/08 and thought that my meds were off. Had a full blood workup to find my meds are fine. But as the Dr. put it I'm in full blown menopause. I turned 50 yesterday. I feel..OLD, FAT and UGLY!
Why do night sweats only happen at night? I know it’s a dumb question. But, I am willing to have my husband tie me to a door if I can get some sleep...LOL
I don't want to do HRT because of breast issues already and heart disease runs in my family. I told the Dr. this is a natural thing I want to try and tough it out...well I'm a wimp....HELP ME!
I THOUGHT THAT THE NIGHT SWEATS WOULD ONLY LAST A WEEK A MONTH LIKE MY CYCLE? No?
And my cycle migraines are all over the place. My last cycle was 3/10/09.

Please can someone be my menopause Buddy. I can't do this alone

My dear we are all your Menopause buddies here!Welcome and we look forward to sharing with you and also supporting and listening too.

Am going to be frank with you, these night sweats can go on for a long time or just abrubtly stop. One friend I have is in her seventies and still suffers now and then from drenching night sweats. The other lady is around forty and she had these for about two years and then they stopped. She completely stopped coffee, alcohol and sugary products and went fro brisk twenty minute walks every day.She also used Primrose Oil which did help.

Have a warm bath before bed.Use cotton sheets and a thin cotton nightie.Keep a fan close by.Also till things ease off no harm in trying a low dosage sleep medication, prescribed by your Doctor just to make sure you get enough rest.

One last thing,young lady!
You are neither fat nor ugly.It is just part of our body mis-conceptions that we have during this stage in our life.

Keep coming back and let us know how you are doing!

Warm Wishes
Elizabeth

I have been suffering from night sweats and hot flashes for almost 2 years not. I sleep like crap and even if I do sleep, I still feel exhausted. I've tried many different things to no avail. If you find an answer, please let me know.

Hi Coleen,
Wish i did have some pearls of wisdom to offer on these night sweats, not pleasant is it?our household have to endure all upstairs windows open of a night, to get a nice thru draft going it,s the only way i can sleep feel like i,m going to suffocate (i possibly will if i don,t stop biting my man,s head off every time he utters a word!!) poor love he,s so patient.

So other than the obvious can,t really help. But i do know how awful it is,i don,t know about you but before i would awake and be sodden.NOW i awake just before.
And of course its getting back to sleep.
i think you made a good point about why night sweats, think i,d rather them at night tho, shouldn,t of said that i,ll have a major HOT flash at work now tomorrow.
And Happy birthday for the other day hope you are feeling a little better today

Hi Boo,
Thanks for the post. You know I'm going to try olay regenerist and see what happens hopfully I will have a result like you.
I bought Spring Valley Black Cohosh menopause Complex but I haven't taken it yet. I really hate taking anything because if there is a side effect I will get it. Never fails.
I've opt out of HRT for the same reason the possible side effects Heart Disease and breat cancer...
Do you know if the olay has the same risks?

So far 50 hasn't been so nifty.....Grrrrrrrr

Write soon can wait to hear

I too have wondered why I have more hot flashes at night. I have maybe one or two mild ones during the day but ususally 4-5 at night. I read recently that the reason for the night time sweats is that while our bodies are trying to get used to lowering estrogen, we still produce some. Most of this is produced during the day until about 6 pm then our bodies basically shut down even the small amt of production until the next morning. This makes sense since I usually start the night sweats about 8:30 or 9pm every night and by 5-6am they stop or reduce considerably until the next night. I am not looking forward to the summer heat since last year they were not so bad. I have not had a period since the end of November and they are in full swing now..... huh.gif

Ok that does explain it. It's hard to believe just how bad these can be. And until they are experienced, you have no idea.

Just had this product suggested to me yesterday at my pharmacy. It might be worth a try for you. It is from Germany, but these products are sold worldwide. It is called KLIMAKT-HEEL. It is a natural homeopathic remedy for menopausal issues i.e. night sweats. You can read about it on the Heel website. Hope it helps you. Nobody is old, fat and ugly, so please don't think that about yourself. 50 is young!

I posted about this product above but it's been SO SO helpful for my night sweats (I get most of my hot flashes at night too) that I had to post it here too. It's a bed chiller! It's recommended for menopause - it's super-efficient (I used to blast the AC to try and deal with the sweats, which forced my husband into the basement, the only room in the house without an AC register - we were spending a ridiculous amount on our energy bill), it has an adjustable temperature range (a big one, from 46-115 degrees), it works with water and keeps the electric field way away from the bed, and it has a remote control so you don't have to get up to change the temp. The one I got lets you set a different temperature for each side of the bed. It's designed by the son of the inventor of the waterbed. What's more - now that I get a full night's sleep I actually suffer less symptoms, including fewer hot flashes.

I don't know what's happening to me but here goes.

I'm 52 in November, had a few flushes and dry skin etc over the past 8 years or so.

In the last TWO weeks only thing have changed drastically. Can some please either read or come up with a suggestion.

I am normally out with the dog walking 2 hours or so in the day but feel trapped by this.

I got hot about 2 weeks ago in the car, pamnicked a bit but forgot it, went away for a day or so, got anxious about it but forgot that too. I had a reaction to some prawns where my arms came out in a stinging rash which is still coming and going and every time I get hot my arms start prickling. Yesterday I got so hot walking I had to sit down and last night for the first time ever I had a hot neck, no sweating, needed a flannel all night and was throwing the cover off. Its still hot but can't see anything. No sweating.

My head aches and eyes itch and are hot, I do have hayfever but never had this in August.

Still have sort of regular periods and as far as I can tell I ovulate although my last period was a very manageable one for a change as I usually flood.

I really don't know what to do with myself apart from keep in the shade keep cool and have been taking flu remedies for the hot neck

I had convinced myself I had Weils Disease or something off the dog who is always in streams etc. huh.gif

If I go to the doctor will she think I am loony if I ask for a blood test/urine.?

Went to the docs this morning she doesn't appear worried there is any sort of bacterial infection, no glands up etc and she said if I'd had one anyway it would work itself out in time. Having a blood test next week to cover thyroid/diabetes etc.
