Hi,

Scheduled for an endometrial biopsy tomorrow morning. My doctor gave me a pill to take to soften the cervix for the procedure.

Nurse said to take it the night before. Biopsy scheduled for 11:00am. She also said to take ibuprofen about 1 hour before the procedure, which I plan to do.

Has anyone else ever taken this as an oral pill? Should it be taken 12 hours before, as I have been told to do? Seems like a long time before the procedure to take the pill.

I had a biopsy years ago and remember some cramping but not too much pain. Never had a cervix softening pill then.

I have read some pretty scary stories from women who experienced lots of pain during the biopsy, so I'm scared as it's been years since I last had this done.

I am supposedly menopausal (15 months with no period) but had a regular period in mid April with tender breasts, cramps, etc. and I spotted for 3 weeks afterwards. All bleeding/spotting has now stopped, but my doc wants to be sure nothing unusual is going on and scheduled me for the biopsy.Already had 2 ultrasounds. First one in mid March showed endometrium of 3mm. However, second ultra done about 1-1/2 months later (while bleeding was happening) showed the lining at 10mm and also two fibroids. Nurse feels the fibroid caused the continued spotting. Doc wasn't too worried that the lining had grown since I had had a period and was still bleeding at the time.

Anyway, back to my original question - Are there such things as oral cervix softening pills? Is it normal to take them up to 12 hours before the biopsy?

I did have an endometrial biopsy a few years ago. Don't remember that I had to take an oral softening pill. But everyone is different and have different needs. I would take the pill as the doctor told me to do. Be sure and take the ibuprofen, that helps. Try not to worry, it is not as bad as you think. Good luck

I had an endrometrial biopsy just last month. I had never had one before and worried myself sick over it. Thanks to the support and kind words from the wonderful ladies on PS, I did just fine. I took a xanax that morning and two ibuprophen before going to the Dr's office. My Dr. was very gentle and told me everything she was doing. I did tense up a lot, and experienced a couple of quick sharp cramps, but then nothing. I was surprised when she said, We're done! I think the worst part for me was the heavy bleeding several days afterwards because you can't use a tampon for 48 hours, just pads. OMG...what a mess. blink.gif I had a lot of big clots also, so don't be surprised if you do. BTW, I didn't have anything to soften my cervix, but she did spray on my cervix to make it numb. All in all, if I ever have to have another one, I'll do fine. smile.gif I'm sure you'll do fine tomorrow also. Try not to worry.

In the past I've had a couple endometrial biopsies. Yep, you cramp, and there was some sharp pain, but it was a really quick procedure, nothing prolonged. And once it was over, no after effects, except some light spotting.

Hope you have an easy go of it!
